Simon Buckley - Bulked Up Significantly

Must say I haven't seen much of him at all since 2005 TAC - has a good reputation and the club must also think highly of him giving him #1 and not say 55 or so.

Good luck - looking forward to seeing him in action pre-season and Sandy - hopefully at AFL by year's end.

Saw Buckley in a Sandringham practice match last year V Williamstown at TBO(that game where Moloney and Bruce were gaining match fitness) and I couldn't stop raving about him. This was my thoughts on Buckley in March 2006...as taken from Demonland.com. The game was the week before round 1 V Carlton.

Went to my first VFL game yesterday, not a bad experience.

Brief observations:

Cam Bruce - Played the first half, definately in cruise control. Looked a class above everyone else, but just went (if that makes sense). Kicked a 55 metre goal on half time via a free kick. Should be right for next week but don't expect any miracles ie- a 5 goal 30 possession game

Brent Moloney - Played the first half. Also just went. Kicked a 65 metre bomb of a goal in the opening 5 minutes which reaffirmed me that this kid will be an asset for many years to come. Some other lovely penetrating kicks through the centre. However still looks rusty and not enough impact. Should still be selected next week.

Phil Read- Played a full game rotating from midfield to forward pocket. Faded in and out of the game. At times provided some good clearences, but other times got caught to often. Needed to show far more to be selected for next week. IMO Sandy for next week.

Simon Buckley - IMPRESSED!!! I think he only played the first half (maybe a tiny bit more) but has a future. Played on a wing, kicked 2 classy goals and set up others and appears to be a bit of a ball magnet. Always seems to have loads of time when in possession ( a bit like Trapper). I don't expect him to play in the seniors this year but has a dash of class about him. One for the future.

Ryan Ferguson - First 3 quarters in defence, last qtr in attack. Provided some good spoils, took 2 spectacular marks (but proceeded to kick in the man on the mark the second time) but not much else. Snapped a goal in the last qtr. Didn't particularly give me much confidence for a red and blue gig.

Simon Godfrey - Probably got about 15 or so possesions rotating from midfield to a half forward flank. Only use this player if we have about 8 injuries. Seems comfortable at VFL level.

VB - Suitably priced @ $3.50 a can

Daniel Bell - Played the first half and was hardly noticed. The big stage seems a long way away at the moment
