Simon Goodwin for Brownlow

I've been thinking about Simon Goodwin's style of play, and he reminds me a lot of Robert Harvey...people from other clubs (myself usually included) go "Him? Yeah, he's fairly good I guess." but don't have rave reviews about his games, etc.

Goodwin is also now a proven AFL player, with All-Australian awards under his belt, and I'd reckon he'd be set for a pretty good year this year, being integral to the Crows midfield....and thriving under Gary Ayres.

And thus, he's my 2002 brownlow tip. Any dissent?

Heh, nah its me...I just recognise that he plays in a style conducive to Brownlow votes.

McLeod is as near to a certainty as you can get if eh plays every game like he has for the past two years

Why?

When he came fourth or whatever in 2000, he said he would win it the next year

He just failed last year and I think will now be even more committed to putting in every week in order to win the medal


Goodwin is good but not brilliant enough consistently to win it and he will have McLeod and Riccutio taking his votes and in my view Brett Burton will be a gun this year and take lots of votes.

Yeh, you're probably right. I'd think that Riccuito, McLeod and the likes may take votes off him, but if the Crows can perform strongly this year, who knows (ala Akermanis winning it with many vote getters from the Lions)...

I agree with Tredders but Ill be happy if you are right and he is wrong.

For sheer "Just Desserts" I hope Macca wins it.

I wont say he was robbed last year coz Akermanis WAS a good choice and Brisbane winning them string of games probably sewed it up in the end for him.

You probably havent got the tape but Simon Goodwin (In his infancy as an AFL player) came of age when he took a brilliant defensive mark during the third quarter of the GF in 97.

And hasnt looked back since.

I personally reckon his breakout moment was the week before, when Jars had enough confidence in a kid in his 9th game to pass to him for a shot at goal against the Doggies in the PF. It was the goal that took the Crows to within a kick at the end of the match, and he never looked like missing it.

And I have got the tape, and that mark was a corker.

Forgotten how sweet it was !!

Though Nigel Smart played a top game. If we get that sort of form from him this year, We'll all be happy.

One thing I dont miss from that year is the "Fourth Idiot" John Russo

Interesting to hear that Goody looks to improve his game 10-15% each year & is looking forward to his 2nd year as a leader at the club. However, I agree with Coopers-Lehmann Jars that I can't see him winning a brownlow in front of McLeod & Riccuito - but he certainly has become a very handy midfielder to complement the other 2. Just need to get Johnson & the birdman firing, & the midfield is looking very dangerous.

Goodwin for the Chas? Not a bad idea - I'd almost get on that one. Too bad he is in the same side as Andrew McLeod, and if McLeod gets anywhere near his best, then Goodwin would have no hope.
