Simon Hogan

It was a match winning act which demonstrated a lot of ability and mental strength and for that one act alone to then compare him to Kane Tenace is just completely ridiculous

While I agree to some extent that Simon hasn't exhibited an improvement over 2009 and his skills have let him down this year, don't forget he had a delayed start to the season with a back problem. This may have had an effect on his overall performance. Still he has to hit the targets when they're there and listen to direction from senior players, which he often doesn't do. Hopefully next year he can have a good pre-season and see how he goes from there.

I'm glad someone picked up his seriously delayed start to pre season. These days a player's preseason (or lack thereof) is increasingly predictive of what sort of season that player will have. The game is so professional now that trying to make up that lost ground is super tough, especially for younger guys who are still getting miles in their legs (often takes 3 or 4 pre seasons cumulatively). More often than not guys who have delayed/interrupted preseasons are behind the 8 ball from the start of the season and struggle to make up ground (just look at Hawthorn in 2009). Hogan is just 22 years old and has played 21 games (most of them off the bench) so its still very early in his development. Survey the league for guys who have played that many games at a good team and who are key parts of the team (they are the exception more than the rule). We have been spoilt by Joel Selwood who freakishly looked completely at home from his first game - I feel sorry for young guys coming through after what Joel did.

Will be interested to see what Hogan can produce next year after (hopefully) a full preseason. Until then, its a bit premature to be stamping his papers I reckon.

I stopped reading this post at "I've" but i wish to remind you that the helicopter punt was a weapon, noone could read the flight of the ball. If Tenace could launch those to the top of the goal square from 50m out we would be a 20 goal better team then we are now :D

Could have been the difference in 08, we've had some good exponents of the copter punt in the past: McCarthy, Playfair, Clarke...... :D

Yeah, you're right, one clutch goal against the hawks should make us all forget about every other mistake and turnover. Since you put it that way the club really owes him if anything.

How many clutch goals was it again?

I didn't even remotely suggest that. Stop being silly.

He hasn't been great this year after a pretty promising 2009. He goes in hard at the footy and puts his body on the line which I like but as has been stated his skill's have if anything suffered from last year.

I dont think he's a lost cause yet, I think he deserves another year to prove himself. Saying that, I think he probably got a few too many games this year in the seniors. I would have liked to have seen a few others to see how they fit in when on the wing/midfield and see if they have what it takes.

Hopefully he can find more of it next year, and possibly be a replacement for Corey or Ling in the long run.

He gets the ball alot, I'd be careful to give him more opportunity before giving him up.
Didn't get a proper chance at seniors this year.
Give him 2011, if shows no further development into senior AFL, then he goes.
