I knew he would be, he always showed too much ability not to be. Was just never given enough time to settle and the bigfooty mob does love to throw players under the bus whether they warrant it or not.

But they are not so keen when they get thrown under a bus by someone who bumps their thread or comment. I.e. Hawkins, Lonergan knockers post the Grand Final.

I call BS on anyone who thought at the end of 2009 Lonergan would be a contracted Geelong AFL player now, let alone a walk-up start and one of our most reliable players. Couldn't be happier that I was wrong.

Yes being wrong is good - sometimes.
Its not often (post 2006 - when i was all for parting with Kelly and Johnson) I have had reservations about players. But it happens.

Lately I have expressed reservations about Stephenson and Burbury. It would be a real pleasure if both step up and contribute to our senior efforts in the way Johnno and Kelly have.

Hogan I described as vanilla a couple of years ago. He is still on the list and is a real chance to contribute to the 2012 attempt to get to top 4. Go Hoges.

Yep! A photo of his kicking style is all that's needed to convince us he hits targets better than most.

The article made for intriguing reading. I'm sure we all hope the worst of the condition is over and that he's able to have a happy fulfilling life henceforce. Some girlfriend he has there too.

I've been wrong on so many things, but no BS, I did have faith that Lonergan had what it took to make it in our best 22. Also Varcoe, Hawkins and Mackie. Was not so successful re Blake, but won't go there.

His performance in the 07 VFL GF was that of a gun footballer destined for good things. Unforgettable performances like that can do nothing but promote optimism and patience. Hogan will be in that category too.

I try not to "bag" any Geelong player.....that way I can be holier than thou.

Now where's my ****ing halo...?

Davo, I don't think that anyone has a problem with reasoned criticism of players performance. What I was alluding to was some of crazy foaming at the mouth, and insulting comments from some posters on this forum.

Take a look at the Geelong V Swans game at K'Park thread, for an example of some of the irrational and probably alcohol inspired dribble.

Some of it may have a little to do with too much passion and being a tad greedy, expecting every player to be perfect and never expecting to lose. We've been blessed in a lot of ways in the last 5 or so years and i think people take the success for granted(including myself at times)
I never really like to "bag" players and always give an honest assessment from my point of view on their performance, which not all will agree on from time to time and i'm quite open to criticism.
My only criticism with Hogan is his disposal and awareness but i'm prepared to cut him some slack on the latter as he hasn't played much senior footy.
I really hope the Boy improves his disposal as Smitty did and prove me wrong, go on to play a lot of footy for the club and have some success.

He'll be performing right under your noses this week, so it'll be interesting to review his game stats and get some feedback on his progress.

With Selwood out this week he'll no doubt be given added responsibility around the clearances.

but he doesnt appear to be there for clearances, he seems to be given "run with" roles.

I think "run with" would include inside work, 1) preventing certain high possession opponents winning possession, and 2) winning possession yourself and using it to the teams advantage. The Ling role.

Problem Lingy was experiencing at times was the speed of his opponents, Hogan's a rocket.
