All pretty similar in skill, but Bartel is the better player, as he is more willing to put his body on the line. Corey has the potential to be better than the other two.

Simple question who is better and why?

Jimmy Bartel
Joel Corey
Corey Enright

In that order

Bartel - just a very good old fashioned footballer. Not quick, not overly skilled, but very smart and knows how to get the ball.

Corey - great at finding space and accumulating kicks, however has no defensive side to his game and lets be honest I could get 35 touches a week if I never played within 40 metres of my opponent. I think the opposition just rolls the dice and backs there man to be more damaging than Corey.

Enright - If not for his terrible disposal could well be the pick of the bunch. Howver after 5 years in the system doubt very much this will change.

I disagree there, he is fantastic overhead, has great skills in and around the pack and can kick 50 metres off one step, your right about not being fast though.

i think it is a simple question

Corey is a gun and i personnally rank him as our best midfielder. He is deceptably fast, a great kick and the pressure that he applies is huge. Also is never scared to put his body on the line. Biggest tryer on the team.

Bartel is next on the list. He possesses a great deal of courage, is a good mark, however lacks in the pace department and applied pressure.

Enright is third on the list. He is a very good player but is in my opinion not even close to the level of the other two. Its like comparing a prawn to a crayfish, both are nice but i'll take the cray anyday.

Bartel is more skilled than either other boy in every department. I am a better overhead mark than Joel Corey, and Enright has dodgy disposal. Jimmy is a great mark corageous and knows how to kick a goal.

Simple, who has won the most carji greaves medals.

Having said that, when everyone careers are done and dusted, i think Jim Bob will be #1

Personally, I think these three players are too typical of who we drafted between 1999-2001. Good players, solid, but none have developed into superstars. To state the obvious, we need a few to break out and go to the next level.

Houli at pick 7 is the answer

Houli at pick 7 is the answer

I'll reserve judgement. Mackie and Tenace were also pick 7. This time last year everyone was raving about what Varcoe would do, and he's really kicked on hasn't he?

With the exception of Hawkins (mainly due to physical maturity), people should realise whoever we draft will almost certainly not play senior football next year.

Remember how everyone use to hate Enright saying he was soft, well he has prooved us all wrong in the last couple of years he is a very good player and handy contributor to the team.

Bartel has so much courage and does what is completely necessary for the team each week and finds the ball a lot. He is a very talented player who has the potential to take the game to a new level.

Corey is the same as Bartel but doesnt have the courage. Has good skill he is very fit and loves the ball by finding it a lot.

My ranking
1. Bartel
2. Corey
3. Enright

I don't think any of us thought Enright was soft - the question mark was over his disposal.

Your a fickle man (im guessing ur gender ... ), Varcoe was never expected to do much due to his injury constraints - remember his restricted pre season, and the coach saying 'its unlikely travis will play senior football in 2006'

When Varcoe comes good u'll jump on his wagon!

As for ur closing argument - Almost all first round picks play senior football in their first season, and whoever we pick at 7 has just as good a chance of getting a game as everyone else on the list given they put in the hard yards and perform well in the VFL.

Bartel by a street. He should be captain. I see alot of Paul Kelly in Bartel. Not overly quick, but his probably along with chappy the best user of the ball at the club and is without doubt the most courageous. (yes even more than Loners)

Id have him equal second with gaz as our best player behind Scarlo.

Agreed. Only Mackie and Varcoe are our only first rounders to not play a game in there first year going back over the last 10 years or so.
Around 50% (give or take 10%) of our total draftees in the last 10 years have played in the first year.

I'm not fickle at all (and your guess was correct). I can't be - I never sang his praises in the first place. I'm fully aware of the injuries he's had, and how it has taken a long time to overcome them. But I stand by what I said, there were many people on this site automatically assuming this guy would be in our starting 22. My contention is that he won't be for a long time. I've just become very suspicious of hype around draft picks, because for every one that makes it, there are just as many that don't. And there are absolutely no guarantees.

If Varcoe becomes a superstar, I'm happy to be proved wrong. No problem.

"so no rising star nominations (besides poss. hawkins) again for next year.":)

We actually have quite a few prospects for rising stars nominees;
Gamble, Varcoe, West, Grima would all have a goal to play senior games this year. Then you have Hawkins + this years draft picks.

Hawkins would be a good bet for a nomination
Gamble would be looking to play 10 and is still eligible I think
Would guestimate pick 7 has about 15% of nomiantion
The rest probably aiming at only an appearance or two in the 1's so a possibility but not probable.
