It's on sale in the US tomorrow.

Occasionally, though, the pirates will actually beat the stores to release, and this must have been one of those occasions - largely because the stores have probably had it for a few days and not been allowed to release it.

Another example of the way in which piracy offers a better deal for gamers than legitimacy. Stupid industry.

Games are too expensive these days.

$100? No game is worth that. Apart from a very select few.

Thats the point. Developers are not going to spend excessive amounts of time and money on a game when theres such a fine line between success and failure. Add to this the money lost through Warez. I mean, personally, I haven't come across a good game since Diablo II (maybe Europa 2). Those would be the ONLY games I would consider worth the dollars that are put on it.

I figure if I get an hour of happy entertainment per $2 I put in, I'm happy.
Diablo II failed that one by a long shot, although Diablo I did it easily.

So, a $100 game needs to last me fifty hours of fun. Doesn't happen particularly often, but given that my GF will probably put in thirty or forty hours on Sims 2 by herself, it should be worth it.

$73.07 for sims2 here... best way to get it is get someone else to buy it e.g for me my brother. and when he gets bored of it.. i use it! :p :D

Diablo is not an RPG. It's an action-adventure title, as is Diablo II, or the games they were based on, Nethack and Moria.
The depth of Diablo II is entirely dependent on variations in character skill trees, stats, and items, while the depth of a true RPG is in character development and story.
An RPG is an interactive story in which the character's decisions alter the outcome of the story - the game facilitates the story. (Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Fallout, Morrowind, etc)
An action-adventure is an entertaining challenge in which the story is more or less unalterable - the story just makes the game more interesting. (Diablo, Doom, Warcraft, etc)

The Sims is probably closer to an RPG than Diablo is. At least in the Sims you think about what your character is interested in doing, as opposed to what the player is interested in doing.

HA HA! I knew you were going to post something like that. I was going to mention in my post that D2 is not a true RPG but couldn't be bothered. More like a 3d shooter (or 2d shooter). Still it is considered by most to be called an Action RPG so why bother changing it? Whether D2 is an RPG or not is beside the point: It has a heck of a lot of depth compared to any RPG I've played (limited to PC RPG's). When I say a game has depth, I am speaking of replayability. In my mind no game has had more replayability than D2. Full Stop.

:D I'm easy to bait sometimes, especially on the "all games that have characters that gain experience are RPGs" thing that's going around.

See, I felt that D2 had very little replayability, mostly because I'd put a couple hundred hours into D1, and just got sick of the whole thing.
My top RPG for depth and replayability is Neverwinter Nights, largely because the excellent toolset that came with it meant that there are now around three thousand downloadable mods for it, and probably a couple of hundred of those are very good.

I didn't play D1 (well maybe once or twice). D2 had a massive item database. No other game compares to that. Nice variation in character builds. Its true, by the very nature of action RPG's, your aim is just to get the max in every stat and skill to deal high damage and stay alive. Still kept me interested for 3 years on and off. One of very few games that you can come back to and still play for more than 5 minutes.

I enjoyed NWN. Certainly didn't play it for anywhere near the length of time as D2. Still, it was great, particularly with the Xp's. I found the levels a bit disappointing. Also the fact that when you make the perfect character, theres little left to do. I never really got into the mods though.

Morrowind and Heroes of Might and Magic III and IV would challenge that.

I used to be such an addict in D1 and D2. I got my mage up to level 50, and my warrior up to 48 before I retired. Used to play heaps on B.net in a clan called LDU.

Diablo II came along, got hooked again. The variety of skills made the game more enjoyable - as well as the anticipation of finding a kick arse rare item. MY barb was level 87 then I quit - never got into the expansion.

However, I still play Morrowind and Heores IV, they are true RPGs. Oh, and Ultima Online deserves a mention but I never really got into it.

Master of Orion II and all the Civ games blow them away though.

I found Morrowind tedious, actually, possibly because it's so easy to rort. Leave something on the Jump key, go to bed, and the next morning you can leap tall mountains. The 'go-anywhere, do-anything' approach was cool, but the poor game balance and twitch-fighting irritated me.

Heroes of Might and Magic is not an RPG, and has very little in common with them. It's a turn-based strategy. Sure, there's a heap of replayability in it, but it's incomparable to Diablo or NWN. They're different genres. Maybe I'm being pedantic, but how the ******** does HOMM qualify as a role playing game?

Kingy, if you've still got NWN installed, head over to www.nwvault.com and pick up a few of the highest-rated mods.
Obviously, personal preference is the major thing, but for me, replayability is not doing the same thingover and over with different skill sets. Replayability is a hundred-plus individual great stories ready for download.

Thanks Nonchalance. I've still got it installed and I'll give it a whirl. On Morrowind, I didn't play it for very long. It was just too non-linear for me. Plus the combat system really annoyed me. If you are going to make a game based around a 1st person view, make the combat look half decent.
