Minority ownership?Matthew Johns is GC
His son Cooper did play at the Storm under Bellamy. Can’t say it was a great playing career though.Minority ownership?
What does it mean? Will he just speak more favourably about the Titans on Fox League or is there more to it?
Does he have a good relationship with Craig Bellamy by any chance?

Huge for the Titans. As we know all too well, it's not easy to hold on to a star player when you're placed near the bottom of the ladder and you have several coaching changes in a short amount of time. Now the Titans get some reprieve and can focus on building a team around Tino because they know he'll be there long-term. Tino and JC both signed up long-term and will obviously be crucial to their future. Now the hard work begins for the Titans.Tino is staying at the Titans let’s go!!
Has to be one of the most hyped one gamers I've ever seen, but apparently he's got the goods. It's nice to see the son of another GC Charger playing for the Titans like JC and Presto before them. I'm sure Cooper was tempted to join another Gold Coaster/Marymount boy of PNG descent in Xavier Coates down at the Storm and get coached by one of the best in Bellamy. So it's a big thing to turn down that offer and commit to the Titans. Good signs for the future.Cooper Bai extension may well in time be bigger than Tino
Hard to believe basketball participation numbers on the GC have grown 12x in the 14 years since 2012 when the Blaze went under. That's enormous growth in just over a decade and to do it without the presence of a professional team in the city is very impressive. You're right in saying the establishment of a pro basketball team will hurt the Suns academy to some degree, but I think it could also help in some ways because I suspect we'll see quite a bit of crossover between the two sports like we see in the southern states and a lot of basketball skills are transferrable to footy.I think it is inevitable! Would be huge for the city, but would be a speedhump for the Suns academy

The "powerful" numbers behind Gold Coast's expansion push
NBL CEO David Stevenson believes the "Gold Coast is a really interesting option" in terms of expansion.www.nbl.com.au
On SEN Tassie on Friday (Fridays with Flash), Mark Radford from the Tasmanian JackJumpers spoke about how Basketball and the Devils should move toward a more collaborative model with dual-sport kids.Hard to believe basketball participation numbers on the GC have grown 12x in the 14 years since 2012 when the Blaze went under. I think in the future it will become very common for kids on the Gold Coast to play basketball in the summer months and footy in the winter months. The standouts will be placed in both our academy and the NBL team's academy - then it's just up to us to convince them that playing footy is the better option going forward. South Australian Zemes Pilot is a great example of that right now and he's currently in the process of choosing between Port Adelaide's NGA pathway or the AIS basketball pathway that will likely lead to college basketball in the US. It's the exact scenario Hugh Greenwood found himself in and you could probably say something similar about Erin Phillips.
So it should help us having both Greenwood and Phillips inside the four walls to liaise with these talented multi sport junior athletes that are weighing up which sport to choose.
Absolutely! I'm fully expecting our future NBL team to set up base at the Carrara Leisure Centre that we currently train in. The basketball courts are already there and obviously we can share a lot of our training facilities with them. It's a natural fit and I don't see it as a threat either. I think both sports win from establishing a partnership like that and obviously we already have basketball people involved in our programs like Greenwood and Phillips so that should make it even easier. On SEN Tassie on Friday (Fridays with Flash), Mark Radford from the Tasmanian JackJumpers spoke about how Basketball and the Devils should move toward a more collaborative model with dual-sport kids.
He said he philosophy was pretty clear: early specialisation doesn’t guarantee elite outcomes. From both a basketball and football perspective, keeping talented juniors involved in both sports for as long as possible is actually better for their development — physically, mentally and skill-wise — before they eventually choose a primary pathway.
He was pretty open about the fact basketball will lose some kids to footy, and footy will lose some to basketball, but overall the talent pool benefits. You end up with better athletes on both sides rather than forcing a decision at 13–14 that may not suit the kid long term.
Feels like that model would translate well to the Gold Coast if an NBL team comes in — not necessarily a threat to the Suns academy, but a chance to develop better all-round athletes and let the decision happen later rather than earlier.

Is that what you're hearing? Distancing the new team away from the failed Blaze colours is probably a good idea from a branding point of view and I don't believe there are any teams in the NBL that wear red and gold. I also think it makes a lot of sense for them to set up base in the Carrara Leisure Centre and share some of our facilities. 'm sure former basketballers Hugh Greenwood and Erin Phillips would be in favour of it. It's a natural fit to have these two pro teams under the same roof.Chance of moving in with the SUNS identity and moving into a yellow/red colour scheme, rather than the traditional blue/yellow of coast
"I want to say that Gold Coast has become an enormous place of pride for everyone in Australia with what's happening here. The basketball community is growing by the day. There's tens of thousands of people playing basketball and I'm so thrilled to see this event here. We hope to absolutely do more."
"Who here would love to see a team on the Gold Coast?"
The crowd cheers.
"I say, we will absolutely do our best to make that happen."

Just to expand on the idea of us getting our own NBL team in the near future, the NBL Owner/CEO Larry Kestelman had this to say after the Ignite Cup final in Broadbeach:
