Site wide rules warning...

Hi Guys/Gals

I'm fairly new to BF and I received a friendly warning this morning from a moderator for unknowingly not following site wide rules . (Hopefully my first and last warning as in general I'm a stick to the rules kinda person).

I had used an abbreviation for North that is only allowed in Bay 13 apparently. I had seen the abbreviation used all over the place since joining BF. I wasn't aware of the abbreviation tbh before joining BF. As i'd seen it used quite a bit I assumed it was A okay. I now know differently thanks to the mod. If used only use in Bay 13 board a board I have yet to post in. Anyone else not familiar with this rule just a heads up to hopefully save you a warning.

My apologises as this was me unknowingly breaking a site rule and we learn from our mistakes.

A lot of people have been on the receiving end of this. The rules technically prohibit any derogatory names for other clubs (in order to stop threads devolving into slanging matches) but there is a feeling amongst some that you will probably get away with arguably more deliberatory derogatory sterotyped references to other clubs involving schoolgirls, brown paper bags, missing teeth, "Coke", tanks, Mt Buller, handbags, Toyota Camrys, injections, pejoratively referring to a club by its pre-merger mascot, and calling expansion teams soulless plastic franchises. The reference you made is very aggressively policed. It is what it is. You can get it out of your system on the Bay or your team board.

To be clear though, this isn't a criticism of the mods. The amount of traffic on the main board is insane, and they rely on people reporting these references. I suspect the North Melbourne reference gets relatively heavily reported. I'll leave it to you to theorise on what that might say about about various supporter groups, their sensitivities, sense-of-humour, ability to engage in give-and-take in banter situations etc

Don't sweat it Jet.... and FWIW I don't think you are allowed to discuss the performance or moderators or degenerate site rules on the open forum.

What's the difference between the two? I'm thinking a warning/infraction is one in the same for breaking site wide rules even unknowingly as in my case. As I mention in my OP it was a friendly warning.

One of my earliest memories of school was circa 1967, I copped a hell of blast from Mrs McVie for sitting on the grass during little lunch.... to this day when ever I walk across grass barefoot it is bizarrely arousing.
