Skype on iPhone

Hey guys,
I have an Iphone, i was wondering how the Skype application works on it and whether it's a good way of not using money on your cap? I.e - can you just talk on skype instead of calling people the traditional way as long as the other person has the skype application and you're connected to the internet on your phone? If anyone has/uses this app if you could explain it and help a brother out that'd be amazing. Thanks in advance.

The other reason i'd like to use sykpe on my mobile is that i have a few mates overseas and clearly ringing them using a free (?) application on my phone as opposed to forking out a ton in normal call charges would be amazing.

how much data do you get on your plan? If you're at home it probably won't matter too much.

according to the Skype forums a 10min call will use 5Mb of data.

cheers for the reply. i only get a gig per month but that'd probably be enough. i guess what i'm trying to figure out is whether it will cost me to call another iphone with the skype application from my iphone with the skype application (besides the obvious internet usage).

missed the other bit .

using it is stupidly simple. if you don't have a contact, type in an e-mail address and if they have skype ID it will show them and you just press it to call.

if you have contacts set up, go down the bottom, pick a group and pick one of the contacts from that. Skype to Skype is free apart from bandwidth

if you want to call landlines or mobiles then you have to buy credits. that's in my info.


very very simple. if you can use your iphone then skype will be a doddle.

thanks for your response again! just to clarify, and i'm aware i probably look like a ******, it doesn't cost to call from skype on my iphone to someone else with skype on their iphone who has an account set up? appreciate your help seanoff.

yes it's free for the moment, supposedly skype want to charge a 3G fee in 2011. it's not entirely clear to me whether this is a US thing with AT&T or a worldwide thing.

if you're using a wireless connection then it will be free. ie free from maccas.
