I'm a very good sleeper, pretty much fall asleep when my head hits the pillow and wake up at a few minutes before my alarm.

I suffered from insomnia for a period a few years ago where i would fall asleep and then wake up an hour or two later and not fall back asleep. This stopped as soon as i moved out of my top floor apartment and into a house so i put it down to the feng shui of my apartment not being conducive to sleep.

A few weeks ago i was telling a friend of mine about this period in my life and she asked if the entire apartments building's electricity cables went through my apartment and bedroom. As a matter of fact they did - there were big drain pipe looking tube, which held all the electrical cables for the entire building, and it went through my bedroom and living room. My friend says that would have caused my insomnia. Given that she accurately guessed the scenario of the electricity cables i think she might be onto something.

My advice would be to keep electronics like TVs, computers etc out of your bedroom and don't run electrical cables under your bed.
 
I have a half theory that sometimes for whatever reason some people's bodies don't follow a 24 hour clock. May be 18 for some or 30 hours. (i.e Wake for 20 sleep for 10) The model followed generally out of necessity due to work/life committments is a 16 hour awake-8 hour sleep model.

Now whether someone works a streesful job, has young children, their natural sleep/wake cycle or any other reason their bodies clock may not naturally slow at an appointed bed time. For example if someone was to sleep 10 hours, they may not need sleep for another 20 hours. So come say 11pm at night they may simply not be tired.

Something you just have to train your body for I guess as it is not always possible to sleep when you naturally would prefer.
 
Guy I know (a personal trainer) sleeps around 11pm to 2-3am every night and thats it. Every day for years, thats his sleeping schedule. Says he cant sleep for any longer

Had a drug problem years ago though which might have something to do with it, but still, for a guy that looks fit and is a happy guy/up and about on only 3-4 hours sleep a night is unreal

My advice would be to keep electronics like TVs, computers etc out of your bedroom

By the same token, it's easier to get to sleep if you haven't been looking at a tv/computer/phone/whatever screen for about half an hour before you go to bed.
 
Was on anti depressants a few years ago and the dreams were surreal, I fall asleep quite easily but wake up at about 2-3 in the morning.

The bodies circadian rhythm is naturally 25 hours. External factors bring it back in line each day.

I think it's been a case of really bad sinusitis.

I'm not sure I've been breathing all that well through my nose. Or at all.

Just started taking meds for it, and it's gone away a bit, for now.
 
I'm on holidays, I haven't had much to drink for over a fortnight and I'm pretty much responsibility free.

Yet, I'm an insomniac again. FFS.
 
If I've been on the weed for a bit and then take a break I usually end up having some really vivid dreams.

Nothing beats a good nights sleep and thats why if you want a good nights sleep you should have a beat...

+1 for holidays ruining sleeping patterns. If I'm not working the next day, I think nothing of staying up until 3am watching DVDs or reading entire Wikipedia articles on wars, mysteries and serial killers. Hopefully being up this early will fix me for the next few days. Exhausting remaining Breaking Bad eps I haven't seen should help as well.
 
A few years back I had depression and was on antidepressants I had insomnia. I "trained" myself to sleep, but only with the tv on. I then weaned myself to only falling asleep to the tv. I have had a mountain of problems trying to naturally fall asleep, then constantly waking after only a couple of hours.

It has taken a many year, but I have now got myself into a pattern of falling asleep naturally and staying asleep all night. It is a huge achievement for me!

Taking magnesium helps me for when I have gone a couple of days without sleeping a full night.

I have downloaded the "sleep cycle" app and it helps me work out what is helping or not helping my sleeping. I have used it for about a month now and I can identify things that are both positive/negative to my sleep habits. Sometimes I think I have had a shocking sleep to discover I have had 90% sleep quality, and feel great after only 70% sleep quality.

Relaxation techniques,aroma therapy, no caffeine sugar or dairy after 5 pm etc etc helps sleep heaps. Having your bedroom for sleeping/screwing only. No tv,iphone or pc half an hour before bed.

Don't worry about dreams, it means the chemical functions in your head are fine...
 
Does anyone struggle sleeping with someone? I have a girlfriend of 2 years and when we sleep together I can never sleep properly. We sleep in a queen size bed yet it feels like i'm confined to the smallest part of the bed. Occasionally i'll sleep well with her (well being five or six hours), but other times, nope. Doesn't make me look forward to moving in together. :(
