I saw my doctor about my insomnia last year when I was working night shift.

I told him I'd given up coffee and my 15-can a day Diet Coke habit in an attempt to regulate my sleep, and that it hadn't worked. he said if caffeine makes no difference, then don't bother cutting it out.

Took the easy way out an prescribed some mild sleeping pills. After a while, they wouldn't work unless I took about 4 or 5 (normal dose was one pill, but I often went two days without sleep).

Also, drinking makes you tired and drowsy but doesn't always put you to sleep. I used to get home from work at 8 am and get on the piss in an attempt to get tired.... often I'd consume 18-20 cans a day, get no sleep, and still be drinking at 11pm when I had to go to work again.

So Rob, I'm in just as much of a quandary as yourself when it comes to insomnia. Looks like all the wrong methods have been tried, and have failed. :(

My desk calendar today has a quote about insomnia, maybe this will help.

A good cure for insomnia is to get plenty of sleep. W.C. Fields.:D

Thanks for all the replies, guys.

Sounds like there aren't many people who get a good night's sleep around here!

My problem isn't dropping off to sleep.... I crash really early, say 9.30pm, but then wake continuously throught the night.... midnight, 3am, 5am.... and then I wake up tired, go through the day tired, which makes me crash at 9.30pm again.... and the whole thing starts again.

I know that its all because of stress, but I was told that if I do something relaxing before I go to bed to take my mind off things then my brain won't be hammering away at my stresses at 3am.

So I was wondering what that could be.

Thanks guys,
Sbagman.
