Can't see a thread on it, and it is slightly old news, but for those who are interested.

Have beena few threads on the band getting back together etc, but thought it might be good to get people opinions on what the new album Zeitgeist might be like.

Its due out on 07/07/07 which is a Saturday, so it will probably be changed.

Its hard to know what Billy will come up with or indeed where his head is at.

I didnt hate Zwan, but it was a bit happy and fluffy and certainly had little of the attitude that made the Pumpkins an essential band back in their hay day.

But then his solo album of a couple of years ago was a massive departure from anything he's been involved in. It had its moments, but over-all was a bit incoherent and disjointed.

But looking at the fact that he/they've worked with producers Roy Thomas Baker (Queen, The Darkness amongst a stack of others) and Terry Date (Soundgarden, Deftones, Pantera, Prong, Limp Bizkit), i'm tipping it will sound bloody big, possibly over the top big (it is Billy Corgan we're talking about here) and have a heap of teeth.

I just hope it features some focused, well crafted songs rather than just being a case of how to make average tunes sound huge and essentially an exercise in stroking Billy's ego.

Either way, it'll will appear in my collection as soon as its released.

7? Billy's obviously toning things back a bit, Soma has about 40 guitar tracks.
Hope it's good, Mellon Collie and Siamese Dream are still on high rotation here. I hold high hopes but have low expectations. I've heard some great moments from Billy since Mellon but he's never really turned it on properly.

Adore has been on high rotation for last few weeks for me. To me its my favourite album from them. If Zeitgeist is half as good as it ill be buying it for sure.

No offence Chris86, but I really cant understand how Adore could be your favorite album. Though this is coming from someone who heard the first 4 bars of Cherub Rock back in around 1993 and thought 'Ive been waiting all my life to hear this'.

Siamese Dream/Mellon Collie was the band, nee Corgan, at their very best.

I only have Siamese Dream and Adore. Love them both. Have been meaning to get Mellon Collie for about 12 months but keep on forgetting to look for it when I am out.

Few years ago I would agree with you, but I've really grown to appreciate Adore more so then the rest of their work. Corgan's songwriting is at its best here IMO and his voice is amazing. Its such a vast departure from MC/Siamese Dream that I can understand why so many fans dont rate it.

its going to lack importance if Corgan can't get the original line up together or else how will it differ from zwan and his solo record

I think the only difference will be that he will be able to play SP's back catalogue when they tour, as opposed to Zwan which was supposed to a be a completely new band.

But i agree that if he does bring in 2 completely new members, it kinda does have the makings of a Smashing Pumpkins tribute or franchise band (i.e what KISS have been for most of this decade).

I doubt seriously we'll see D'arcy back. Apparently Melissa Auf der Maur has stated she'd like to be involved again which would at least be better than a ring-in. Not sure where James stands though.

Loving this new song, vocals sound a bit different but still great. Guitar work really gets me going, love the solo.

There's some good quality audio of last week's Paris concert floating around. The new songs are really awesome (Starz being my favourite) and if they hold up as well on the album as they did live Zeitgeist is going to be one of thier better albums for sure.

Just listened to the bootleg of their comeback show.

WOW.

Can't wait till they hit us, will do anything to be at that gig.

It got changed to July 10th instead. Warner probably wanted it to do a full week in the charts for it's debut instead of the three days it would have done if released on it 7th. Doomsday Clock is now available (probably because it will be out soon on the Transformers soundtrack) when you pre order Zeitgeist on iTunes which means it will be available everywhere before too long.

Reviews for the album so far have ranged between good and great. Take that for what it's worth.

They are playing a small venue in London tonight - gig sold out in 5mins (no kidding) and tickets are being touted for £90 to £150. Am hoping to ghet one for a whole lot less tho!!! Will let u guys know if the actual is as good as the hype!!
