after watching a fair amount of there new songs live on youtube..i think billy/jimmy can actually make another good rock album. its just good to hear that SP sounding geetar again. i dont expect a SD..but im hopefull for something damn decent.

thoughts..

Between live recordings and the two songs that have been released I've heard 10 of the 12 songs on the album and unless they really dropped the ball in the studio (And the word is only For God and Country sounds any different) it's going to be a very solid album.

Lucky bugger. Can't wait until they make it down here.

Interestingly enough some guys on the boards last night were talking about the album and how the promo copies are heavily protected and they were saying it comes out on the 6th in Germany so only a week to go at the latest until we find out.

That is unless it leaks... ;);)

Well its leaked, and its a pretty solid album. Corgan sounds great and the drumming is top notch. Few songs I'm indifferent to but I have no doubt they will grow on me more I listen. Early review 8/10.

Definately. The only song I'm iffy about is Bring the Light just cause the first half is kind of meh but the second half saves it. This album feels to me like a happy medium between classic pumpkins (Gish, SD, MCIS) and the more experimental pumpkins (Adore, Machina.) Billy must be in love with the sound of his own voice with all the vocal layering on this album but I'll be damned if it doesn't work. It's definately the most diverse sounding album they've done since MCIS. It has all bases covered as far as what makes a good Pumpkins album. Thumbs way up. :thumbsu:

Not overly impressed on the first couple of listens but perservered because........it's the Pumpkins.
Is slowly starting to consume me with at least 6 songs starting to get some heavy rotation.
I cant imagibe that at this stage it's going to surpass thier best work but I am confident that it's going to be more than a worthy addition to thier catalogue.

Now hoping for the tour where hopefully Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie get a more thourough workout than on thier last Adore tour.

First Pumpkins album I've heard, thought it was decent. Love "Doomsday Clock". There's great guitar work throughout the album.

Wait 'till you get a load of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie.
That's when the band was at the absolute top of it's game and Billy was writing the best songs of his career.
Oh...and the guitars aren't too shabby either, especially on Siamese Dream which has a truly monstrous guitar sound throughout.

Am really starting to warm to this latest effort. Some very good songs mixed in with some good ones. No song at this stage stands out as an absolute stinker but by the same token, none will really push to be included amongst thier elite offerings.
A very solid album though.

I'll have a listen to them in the next few days. I heard Doomsday Clock on the Transformers soundtrack, so I thought I'd jump on the bandwagon.

I thought this was coming out on the 10th... I went to my local cd shop and they told me it was the 14th??

Did I miss a new release date or are they idiots?
The Internet's a wonderful place.

only received 1.5 stars in the paper (Herald Sun) today.

Listen to it and make up your own mind. Always find that is best. Problem with any Smashing Pumpkins album is that it is always going to be compared to Siamese Dream or Melloncollie. Siamese Dream is up there with one of the best all time albums, so the comparison is going to be tough.

As an album it has some cracking tunes. If this was a "new" band we'd probably be jerking off over it. If it means that they will now do some more touring then great! Gives us a chance to hear not just their new stuff but their back catalogue live!

Have been listening to this album now for a week or so and I'm impressed by it. Its not in the statosphere of Saimese Dreams, but neither is it some pile of cr*p. I personally think it sits somewhere in between Melloncollie and Machina/Adore as an album.

Pluses for the album are the great guitar riff's....there is some really good work there. The tunes are catchy without being annoying - they're not the sort to get stuck in your head ad nauseum. Songs I like are Stars, Doomsday Clock, United States (really good guitar work on this), For God and Country.

Agree with Fredi. Have listened to it a fair few times over the last few days.

Starz and Doomsday Clock would have to be my early favourites. Cannot get 'We Are Stars' out of my head. I had free periods at school today.... I think I sang that line to myself atleast 500 times.

I've only played it a couple of times, but it seems pretty cool. Definately sounds like Smashing Pumpkins, really liking Doomsday Clock, Tarantula and Starz.

And the Herald Sun might have gave it 1 and a half, but the Age gave it 4. Doesn't matter anyways, I rarely agree with em

1 1/2 stars!? Pathetic. They had a nasty little comment under the chart position (7th) saying the reunion has started off with a whimper. Yeah, that's why it was the highest selling album in the world last week and the latest tour has been hugly successful. Obviously they're just jumping on board the Anti Billy bandwagon. 7th is not bad seeing as Warner Australia didn't see any point in advertising while alll the albums above them were all over TV last week.
