Not independent research but maybe an indication that there is a problem with young mums and their children.

It's definitely something that's brought up in recent 'New Parent' style books: that even when you think your babies and toddlers are safe and happy amusing themselves with whatever they're doing, they will instinctively look over to their parents frequently. And if you're sitting there on your phone during that time and ignoring them (and everyone else), it supposedly can stunt their social development.
