Go the Bimbos! :)

Hmm...I should pay more attention to the team selections. Didn't realise that Ottens wasn't even playing! Mind you, my only available sub for him - Neitz - only scored 11 pts so I can't blame my demise totally on that.

Was cruelled by early match injury to Riewoldt, who I was anticipating would score 4 goals + against a short Doggies defence, and probably take a dozen or so marks.

And my midfield was decidedly ordinary too, with normal ball magnets Kerr and Power both strangely subdued despite their host teams handing out spankings to their opponents!

grimlock is correct, the Defence starts each game at six goals, and loses score as their opposing AFL team scores goals.

Also, yes, Points For is isued to determine ladder positions, not percentage. This is to prevent people subverting the game by "dogging" one week so their opponent goes way up in percentage.

Further to Stellation's point, don't worry about those news posts, I haven't always been keeping up with them and they don't affect whether you can put people in or out. You could have had Nick Davis this week, for instance.

Good to see things are working more or less as planned. I'll keep watching here if you have any questions or suggestions or bug reports.

Congratulations, Monty, on pulling that site and comp together. You've obviously put a lot of work into it. It's a more interesting format of FF than the one on the official AFL site.

I was particularly impressed by how the scores were updated as the round progressed.

Thanks liz! I think the AFL one is fine for what it is - a salary cap format - but personally I find the league-based format to be a far more enjoyable. I'd much rather have more freedom to choose which players I want to play in my team every week, rather than the Dream Team where your list is very static and most of the trades are to replace injured or suspended players. I hope I can get trades up and running some time this week so you guys can start swapping players with each other.

As for live updates, I think the people running the Dream Team comp have designed it so as to minimise the time you spend on the site, perhaps for bandwidth reasons. It's slow, you can only do two trades per week, and it's useless visiting it on the weekend. I don't quite understand why Kellogg's pays to advertise on that site, they get one tiny ad that only appears once, and it doesn't even have a link to go to Kellogg's Web site. Ridiculous. I'd love to know how much they're paying for that.

I'm currently exploring options for so-called "high stakes" variants in 2006 - that's where you pay a certain entry fee, say $100, and the winner of the 10-coach comp wins a large amount of the pool, say $350 and the runner-up gets a smaller amount, say $150 (and the game operator keeps the rest minus tax, of course). However, that sort of thing, while very popular in the US, is pretty much impossible to run in Victoria given how much Tattersall's has things sewn up. My next step is to look into the Darwin-based gambling operators.

I would think bandwidth is the major reason why the Dream Team site can't offer live updates. The sheer volume of users would overwhelm them. Its not a bad game, can't complain since its free. Its quite formulaic though, and all you really have to do is pick undervalued players in the beginning, mostly rookies and long-term injured players from the past seasons, pick up their rise in value and trade off for better players. I think a lot of 'coaches' have tagged on to that this season with the rise in the number of trades.

I do like the FF game better, mainly because its very similar to the fantasy NBA games I've enjoyed over the past few years. Trading with other coaches is certainly a very enjoyable aspect of these games. I'm looking forward to it.

Keep up the good work m0nty!
