So where now for Cox?

ease up. he's had as many bad afl games as good ones and torn up the wafl now and then. you may as well say dalziell is a gun, or mcginnity.

lycett surely has some improvement ahead of him which, while setting him apart from those two, hardly makes him a gun.

(edit: at this stage.)

I'll ease up when every idiot stops calling Sheed Shred. I mean... what does he shred exactly?

People arguing for Cox to be in the team based on name and history only and not performance are like people who don't work hard anymore and expecting their boss not to give a dam.

Gee it's a tough slog trying to convince people our team isn't performing well and needs a clean out, you would think our position on the ladder the last 2 years would help a bit.

Who's saying he deserves to be in the team?

I see praise all round for keeping him our and elevating Lycett.

I think Cox will be used sparingly during this season. They'll bring him out for big games (like Freo) and ask him to destroy himself on the day knowing he'll get a rest the following week/s, maybe having extended rests then coming out for one game and just going hell for leather (rather than feeling like he has to reserve a bit for recovery sakes) will help him play at his elite level for another season?

EDIT: I'm sure in the past few seasons he's probably felt like the team relied heavily upon him due to our lack of depth and inexperience. I think that aspect of our team has turned the corner this season with our ruck depth.

Cox is not only a legend, but STILL one of the best around the ground ruckmen in the league.

BUT, this is the time to regroup, and above all Cox will put the team ahead of his own glory. If he was being "rested," I doubt they'd squeeze the big man into a plane to Melbourne, but instead he took his seat in the Coaches' box...

With Lycett and J-Mac playing so well, and Sinclair dominating in the WAFL, I reckon we may have seen the last of Cox as a player. He will step back to allow the youngsters a run.

did i see Cox at Etihad today?

I would have thought that resting him meant staying in Perth and not doing any unnecessary travellling...

I agree with that. If he's playing next week its idiotic to fly him to Vic.

He been relegated now to 3rd ruckman anyhow. Backup to NN and Lycett.

Lycett is so much better at ground level than Cox, and at everything else now. It would be a travesty now if Cox were to replace him.

I mentioned Father Time has caught up with Dean on FB & have been accused of saying because Dean is a father he should no longer play AFL.....

Simmo declaring him a starter for the Derby.. 3 rucks is going to be difficult against Freo.

I reckon this was either poor form by Simpson by painting himself into a corner, or he's made a deal with Cox telling him he'd be back for the derby and he wanted to make sure Cox knew he meant it.

Confusing move to say the least. And the commentators yesterday couldn't shut up about it (and I only saw the first half).

Lycett has shown a fair bit in the last 2 games. He chases, is actually pretty quick for a big man and can take a mark. He actually reminded me of Cox in his earlier days, linking up as another mid and running all over the ground, kicking goals, taking marks.......anyone would think Cox has been coaching him:drunk:

No he's not, and no it wouldn't.
BUT it would be rather pointless. Considering we're re-grouping, Lycett is now good enough to play #2 behind NN, and Sinclair is pushing for a game.
WCE SHOULD think outside the box: Keep Cox around, see what Adelaide or Port will offer us for Lycett, promote Sinclair, and rookie list someone like Darcy Cameron. But they WON'T. We'll try to keep both, and that means Cox has to go asap.

I think it is no accident that we have ended up with three of the best young rucks in the AFL.
Cox as their mentor may end up being the master of his own downfall.
None of them are still near to Cox at his peak.
He is also the victim of his own lofty standards. He still averages better stats than more than half the current AFL
Rucks. If he made himself available next season would be still snapped up by a good half dozen clubs.

He should become a Stuart Dew for a high-end club and nab himself a sneaky premiership somewhere!

I seem to remember he has one already.
Actually that is what I remember most about that Grand Final is Cox at the end of the game.

Don't seem remember saying anything to the contrary.

Mate and I discussed it at work though, if he thought himself capable of playing on he should definitely look into it.

Oh God please. Very very keen on Lycett, with our deficiency's in the ruck behind Lobbe and an injured Redden, would jump all over it. Going to be an excellent ruckman. Pick 28 and 49 for Lycett and 45 again? :P
