Apparently, Serbian supporters are gathering outside the hotel Djokovic is being detained in, stating that politics and sport should be kept seperate. Aren't these the same people that end up fighting with the Croatian supporters at the Open every year over the wars that occurred decades ago?

I am just waiting for one of the flogs to do some sort of criminal damage in their "support" of Djokovic.

People who think sports and politics are seperate are fascinating to me.

wondered that for most of my life, but certainly the past 25 years

morrison has adapted so much of his style of public speech, his tone, his behaviour from trump ... how he's been speaking about the berejiklian/icac situation in nsw is the latest, starkest example ...
but the federal coalition has shifted this country further from what used to be accepted as basic tenets and rules and institutions of democracy ... porter, taylor, sukkar, that thug dutton, cash ... you've got the nationals who are, collectively, a frightening comedy sketch show ... and then you're getting further into the extremist rabble fringes
but it's not just this current crop of imbeciles ... every coalition figure who accepted the behaviour of tony abbott/alan jones during the gillard years is complicit
and jones should've been jailed over the cronulla riots

among the most gut-achingly outrageous examples of public hypocrisy came from the abbott supporters who publicly lamented the "cruel" and "insensitive" treatment of abbott after he lost warringah to steggall at the last election, led by certain high-profile media commentators, mostly linked to one media company

i stopped arguing some time ago that labor was much better, they're mostly a bunch of party hacks but at this stage they haven't completely abandoned the principles of integrity and democracy
Hear, hear.

A dear friend of mine's dad was Croatian but he fought with Tito and the partisans during WW2. During the 1960s he exposed the existence of Croatian/ Ustasha training camps in Victoria. These were supported by our true blue govt. The trained up kids went on several missions to bomb railways stations and the like in then Yugoslavia. Spectacular fails of course given the incompetence of all concerned.

The Croatian locals in Melbourne tried to bomb the home of my friend's family -no result.

I have no idea what the Serbs and Croatians argue about these days. It certainly is not about socialism v fascism. Seems to me it is just different brands of fascism.

Soz for not being remotely optimistic.

Why is it that everytime i go searching for the latest news about Sco Mo, my blood pressure rises and I feel more embarrased about being Australian.

Well there you go. I was actually thinking (which deviates from my original sentiment toward him that he was a narcissistic d*ck) that he has been pretty good in dealing with most things....Macron, the china thugs, the virus and now Djokovic.

My view seems to be out of step with consensus. Maybe that's why I'm so disliked?......he he he he oh well back to annoying people

When Perrottet became premier he said “a strong society needs a strong economy”.

He seems an intelligent, educated guy. So why didn’t it occur to him that the reverse is every bit as true- a strong economy needs a strong society.

If we don’t all take one huge lesson from this pandemic - that government and public institutions perform an irreplaceable role in society, one which the private sector will never match - we are all ****ed.

because such a thought runs totally counter to the neoliberal views that drive him and his ilk ... there is nothing above the economy ...
it's the same problem when these dckheads struggle with climate change ... they don't see that without a healthy envoironment there's no economy (taken to its nth degree ... because there'll be no people) ...
to them, it's all about the market
trickle-down economics is another element of this flawed ideology

I think we have to be grateful that ICAC didn’t get hold of Gladdy before the pandemic took hold. Perrottet, as the voice of NSW, may well have changed the dynamic of the cabinet and taken us down the same path as Donny and Boris.
Yes. I have huge gripes about Berejiklian’s handling of the pandemic but Perrottet seemed to take leave of his senses in mid December when he dropped mask wearing and QR checkins.

Avoid the shops at the best of time but had to duck over to the local shopping centre. There were at least 5 big chain retailers with doors closed "due to safety" which I'm presuming is code for our staff are all isolating. Kmart shelves are half empty as were Coles. Not many people out and about either.

All very well for Morrison and Perrottet to talk about “personal responsibility” but implicit in personal responsibility is being able to have access to all relevant information, and they’re treating us like mushrooms.

So Djokovic wins the right to stay in Australia and play the Aus Open. Now I can't stand the prick, but the likes of Morrison, Karen Andrews and Vic Libs like Guy, O'Brien, Crozier etc all tried to pin this on the Victorian government. They have all been shown to be a bunch of lying campaigners. If the Victorian Liberals thought they were any chance of winning the next election, this should be the final nail in their coffin.

If you're ever in trouble with the border force , just tell them you need to call Tennis Australia.

I may be a bit behind on the news, but did ScoMo really play a ukelele on some puff piece?
Yes. Yes he did. His wife also talked about Grace Tame not showing manners. Today her husband basically suggested that the opposition were disloyal to the country. Wonder what she thinks of false allegations of treason being made to score cheap political points?

and i bet he wasn't smiling when he said it ... he's incapable of properly, genuinely smiling, he can only smirk
