The perfect solution to all our woes:

Trade Richo to Adelaide in exchange for Kane Johnson

Pick up Carey via the draft for probably a pick in the top 20 to the roos.

Then focus on recruiting another tall forward or two and midfielder with our top picks to replace Carey/Campbell in 2-3 years.

Forwardline then has Ottens, Carey, Hall, Rodan, Krakouer & Pettifer.

Midfielders: Johnson, Ednie, Coughlan, Campbell, Dragga, Bowden etc.

Looks a lot stronger to me.

Our problems start and end in the midfield. We don't win enough of the ball there and of the little we do, kick it too poorly forward.

I believe we have too many runners (who can't kick! ) and not enough grunts. Getting Kane Johnson isn't going to help out cause greatly. I would be more keen on getting Brent Guerra from Port Adelaide or Ashley McGrath from Brisbane (cousin to Marty). These are both solidly built grunts who can win the ball and also have some skill to boot.

I would also be enquiring about the availability of Garry Hocking as a specialist midfield coach. See if he can knock us into some sort of shape.

As Adelaide are showing, you don't need a gun forward or backline in order to be in Premiership calculations but you certainly need a crack midfield. Adelaide have this as do Port and Brisbane.

No surprises that they have 3 of the top 4 positions at the moment!

If we added a good midfield to our existing forward/back lines, we too would be right up there with it.

Our first 2 picks (fingers crossed) better go on young kids that are going to be good players..like Port did with Nick Stevens and Es did with Carracella.

get rid of the senior born losers:- cambo, knights, Richo, DK & Rodgers for a start. They only play AFL for the one thing, the cash and have had no interest whatsover in becoming elite players who are successful year in, year out. All these imposters have been at the club for 10 years, 8 have been miserable.

Gary Hocking as specialist mid feild coach, what a great choice to teach them the art of hard in and under footy.
We must also recruit guys that can be moulded to play this way.

We need to keep the players that get the ball , Tivvers, Bowden, Cambo, Richo, Granted they stuff up in disposal but we must perservere. Recruit players that would compliment this core, with exceptional pace.

The young kids have been ok, and time hopefully will improve them. Stafford IMO is a terrific pick-up.

IMO these guys are suspect, Sziller, King, Rogers, Duncan, Knights, Cameron, Vardy, Hudson and possibly Houlihan.

Stay away from the experienced recruits and go for youngsters that could possibly step up in their first year and potentially give us 10 years/ 200 games service, like Rodan has for us this year.

If we are to trade Richo ... it MUST be for No.1 pick. Or picks 2 and 5, or some other equally valuable combination.

Warpig, to even mention Richo and Kane Johnson in the same breath as Richo is insulting ... As Rodan says, Johnson is highly over-rated. But I know your heart's in the right place.

Anyone not appreciating the value and the lure of Matthew Richardson as a trade possibility does not understand the esteem opposition coaches hold him in. I've only spoken to Dennis Pagan about him, albeit last year, but I'm sure he would still luuuurrrve Richo in a Kangas jumper, and fancy himself to get his mind right.

No.1 pick, or 2 of the Top 5 .... or forget about the whole deal.

agrees ghost. no1 pick at the very least with perhaps a youngster on a senior list already as part of the deal.
