I have been using utorrent for about 4 months now, it was working fine for the first three months but the last 6 weeks I only download at 5k/s when before it was sometimes 300. does anyone know what the problem could be considering i haven't tinkered with any of the options, changed any hardware or internet settings?

cheers:confused:

Uh oh... I have downloaded a .uif file, and my computer (Windows Vista HP) will not open it... the person who uploaded the torrent said I need some freeware called 'MagicDisc' to open it. I downloaded MagicDisc and still cannot open file... can anyone help?

Thanks splitlizard, but the link you provided basically says to download MagicDisc which I have already done. It says to download MagicDisc and then double-click the .uif file, but when I click on it, absolutely nothing happens.

splitlizard, I am an idiot. The link you kindly provided was for MagicISO, which was exactly what I needed (I had downloaded MagicDisc:o). File now opened, thanks for your help!

utorrent is soooooooo slow. Does everyone else find that?

It could easily be the "other side". You can have the top speed yourself but if the upload speed from the other computers is low then there's nothing you can do about that.

Used to find that utorrent was the best.

However, I have now dumped torrents all together for news groups :thumbsu:

Newsgroups are excellent particularly if you dont have to pay for it and you have a 200 day retention :thumbsu: All apart of my ISP 's fringe benefits, (Internode) They offer access to giganews and astrawebs newsgroups at no extra cost and best of all, you get maxed out speeds every time :)

Just on the subject of uTorrent, which I have started using recently- a couple of dumb questions:

For the torrent I am downloading at the moment, underneath the heading 'seeds' it has a '0' (zero) and then in brackets (60). Is the torrent downloading properly? Can someone tell me what this means?

Also, on same torrent I have been watching the % downloaded and it has actually been going DOWN from 15.1 to 14.8 (and back up again) Is this normal? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Have you portforwarded correctly? Opened up the port and all?

and for the latter, have you changed the files that you wanted to download? For example you only want to download 4 files in a 10 files torrent and then you added more files to download, the % will go down.

Thanks, Equus.. I am reasonably sure I am portforwarded correctly. I recall when downloading uTorrent there was a link to click on to check this, which I did and it said my portforwarding was fine.

Checked the problem torrent this morn and it was humming along beautifully- this time under 'seeds' it had (2) 60, so it seems there needs to be seed(s) in the brackets for optimimum download speed. Interestingly on your other point I did have another torrent loaded (which was a 'partial' download- 2 tracks only out of possible 25). This had stalled at 90%, so I removed it and main torrent (not coincidentally?) began to improve. Thanks again.

They do vary incredibly (download speeds) Sometimes I get 10kbs but with one torrent I got up to 500kbs and an average of 300kbs. Depends on number of seeds/leechers,speed of the other pcs etc.
