Some Observations

Just some observations from the series

Lee improved dramatically when McGrath got injured.
Williams is a viable option
Watson was starting to play well when he got injured
Symonds is a very lucky cricketer to get a game
Hogg is a better one day cricketer than most thought he was
Bevan is not playing as well as seasons gone by and is a liability in the field
Martyn is to patchy with his form

Other notes
Harvey getting added to the squad was because of 'potential' not form
Noffke unlucky not to be given a chance during the series
Bracken is a viable option
Campbell was unlucky not to be selected in the squad given that Symonds was

That nice new shiny white ball has improved Lee ten fold. If Gillespie and McGrath both play in the world cup maybe it is worth holding one of them back to first change. It hasn't worked in the past with McGrath but Lee will probably go back to getting hammered at first change

He hasn't had much of a chance with the bat but his bowling has definetly improved. He missed a big opportunity with the bat yesterday and he couldn't have done worse than Symonds

Symonds is a very lucky cricketer to get a game
If he is played as our no 1 all-rounder in the World Cup we might as well kiss it goodbye already. Surely even playing Bichel as the all-rounder is a more viable option.

Hogg is a better one day cricketer than most thought he was
Hey Victorians, should Cameron White still get in the team infront of Hogg

Bevan is not playing as well as seasons gone by and is a liability in the field
Bring on Maher/Clarke

Martyn is to patchy with his form
A bit tough. IMO could be the barometer of our success in the world cup. If early wickets fall he is the key player in the middle order with no Bevan.

Other notes

Harvey getting added to the squad was because of 'potential' not form
Did a good job in the 'A' game versus Sri Lanka. I'm not his biggest fan but who else is there really? I'll also add that it is no different to the original selections of Symonds and Watson

Noffke unlucky not to be given a chance during the series
When I first saw him I thought 'the next McGrath', I haven't heard much of him lately, form?

Bracken is a viable option

Ah but can Campbell play as a specialist 12th man

My observation:

* The top 3 (Hayden, Gilchrist, Ponting) will decide our world cup fate.

Im pretty sure he was injuried...missed a pura cup match. Because surely he would have been ahead of Bracken after Noffke after his performances in the A Teams. But having said that, I thought Bracken did a great job. Definetly a future test player.

Only scored 5 out of 11 tons at the 'G. thought it was more than that.

The answer to that is no however, if there was an injury or two to batsmen who would you prefer at no 6 ?

Yep. Originally as the backup spinner...but now it looks like he'll be our No.1 All Rounder.

Harvey's selection might be because of the "like for like" selection criteria. IIRC has had an injury-interrupted season, and his record at the highest level is pretty ordinary.

The "potential" tag should no longer apply. He is three months short of 31, is in his tenth year of F/C cricket and has probably 3 years left in him.

All of his ODI 100's scored in Australia have been at the MCG.
