Something big is coming

Due for launch next week, it will be the marquee player as the Power goes about revolutionizing its home game entertainment.

The big launch happens on Tuesday (10 April) from 11am at Stephens Place in Rundle Mall. And it will appear for the first time at the Showdown on the following Saturday.

But the special big thing won’t be the only addition to Power game days at AAMI Stadium.

This Sunday when the Power takes on the Kangaroos, Planet Teal Zone begins at Gate 4 from 10.45am, as soon as the gates open.

<snip>

Any thoughts ?

I can't imagine it being anything good. Every `revolution' seems to get in the way of being Port.

Hopefully people will like it, the club is making a real effort to boost the atmosphere and pre match entertainment.

All 4 sides of the ground were consulted with the club, The Supporters Club (south), the cheer squad (north) the members boys (members area) and the Outer army (wing) in planning for something we hope people will support for a number of years. the club want's to make it a regular event at our home games, so make sure you get in early and see what you think.
After all, it could not be as bad as the crows jazz bands.

The club is eager for songs and chants from the supporters through out the game, hence the scrapping of the music after a goal. It is going to be up to the fans, not the PA system to make the noise.

And no, I am not going to tell you what it is, the club asked that we keep it quiet until the event.

So it's not just a new suit for the mascot?

There's something in the Age today about St Kilda's plans for a new atmosphere at their games. I just skimmed over it, but besides involving dramatic lighting (dimming half the ground when there's a shot for goal, etc. ), one suggestion is to in some way separate the fans of the two competing teams, so that there are larger, more clear-cut groups of barrackers.

This would be a sad development. One of the most magical (albeit occasionally annoying) things about going to a footy game is that we are usually all mixed in together, and can usually have a laugh together after the hostilities. And I think in the long run segregating the stadium by team is just asking for UK-soccer-style trouble.

I did like the way the AFL/MCG divided up the seats for the GF, but that's your basic one-off Special Occasion.

I'll have to wait to see it - I cant make the showdown as I'm playing footy.

Hmmm, including that mob, I hope it isn't something brilliant thought up by the guys in marketing, the ones who try to pretend we've only existed since 1997.

Paralowiepower I know you're not going to say what it is, and that's fine, but can you at least tell us is it something aimed at all age groups (and by extension supporters who've been supporting post and past-97), or (yet) another gimmick aimed at the kids?

As an AAMI Stadium member I resemble that remark. :p

I wonder how they consulted the AAMI members? This is the first I have heard of it and I know quite a number of other AAMI members and none of them have mentioned it.

The meetings and planning was all about generating more atmopshere at Football Park. So the guys who were selected in the members were the group of guys who always start the singing and cheering.

Some of the stuff will be aimed at kids, fair enough but all supporters will be able to get involved and I can tell you the music is great while this is on.
It will also be used at every home game after the showdown, and everyone has a chance to win as well.

Including those of us interstate that the club/afl generally ignores ????

I hope it isn't too scary/stupid/childish for those at the game..........

some people will get antsy about this comment but the first thing that needs to go is the auskick at half time... boring as bat poo
at half time they should think of some proper half time entertainment

Couldn't disagree more. I personally couldn't care less what "entertainment" they throw up. If I was 10 again though I would go every week if something like a quarter time ticket number draw gave me the chance to run around in the Auskick at half time. I thought the club was after the kids?

Chance to win Cheerleaders, hmmm, something in it for the Dads too hey...

BZZZZZZT! Already a bad idea.

I reckon Auskick should be played BEFORE the AFL match so the kids get the chance to sit down and watch the AFL guys play. They could still be there as the sides run onto the ground at the start of the match, but the kids usually miss the 2nd and 3rd quarters if they play at half time.

Auskick isn't us. Its for the kids.

And it's great to watch them having some fun.

Let's leave the flashy meaningless stuff to the Yanks.
