Ben Rutten has lost what pace he had, So I believe he should be asked to stand Down and make way
for Hartigan, Thompson, Yolmen or even try Johnston or Pods in the back half
Other sides put Mobile F/Wards on him now
I realize people are going to say the above players mention will be inexperienced and to light
Either this year or next year they will be called on nothing wrong with NOW
It is sad for what I have said about Ben.The Club has to put the Hard Call on him

The same way they in what did to Johncock,Hart,Edwards ETC

Truck has always been a slowcoach. That's why they call him truck.

The problem here is that our midfield keeps turning over the ball which leaves him under the pump and often put of position.

You could dig up a thread about this time every year saying the exact same thing. Rutten always takes a little longer to get into match fitness and conditioning than others but once he is he plays well. He was great for us in the back half of the year last year even when our back line was under siege.

Schulz, whilst very good, isn't exactly super quick, and he had Truck covered quite easily. I'm not ready to stick a fork in him just yet, but he is going to be done at some point. Unforunately, in this game, it can happen rather quickly too. That said, having a properly functioning half back line would help immeasurably.

this may be true for the past and even for this year. but there will be a time when his slow start is maintained and the call will need to be made. even if it is this year, we're still only 2 games in and my thought is that this should be revisited about round 5. if truck hasn't started to improve then it may need to be looked at. especially if we're 0:5 or 1:4. hopefully our defensive midfield pressure can be a bit better and make all the back half's jobs easier.

Last year this for the big truck.

If it is clear we are not making finals, he will be given an early farewell game.

I've made the mistake twice of writing him off.

I don't even think he has been that bad. How many goals has his and Talias opponents scored thus far? The rate in which turnovers have come quickly in to the defensive 50 is just highlighting the fact the Rutten is not the quickest bloke around. I would wait until mid way through the year before making this call.

Rutten is doing okay. It's the far king gameplan that has everyone forward and a 70 metre gap for the fast opposition forwards and mids to run into. Good gameplan if you are the fastest kids on the block--we are not. Rutten probably looks slow late in the game because he's never had to cover so much ground in games b4. That plus the sheer avalanche of ball coming down late in the game as we tire. Even a spud like Schultz should get a kick under these circumstances.

Didn't rutten have a limited PS again this year? I don't think he has been too bad, and he always starts a little slow.

been a great servant of the club.........but he is the slowest player in the AFL, lots of young mobile forwards around nowadays he cant go with, time for hartigan

His strength is his ability to wrestle and spoil an incoming high ball, against an open forward line with a ball kicked low to the advantage of his opponent his lack of pace is exposed. In other words when our midfield can get back in numbers it's not a problem, but with our lack of running and turnover after turnover it can be a serious problem.

Bingo.

Truck is fine - our backline is being murdered by our forwards/mids turning it over and then we get absolutely carved up.

Any defender will struggle when they're constantly exposed to one on one contests, with quick ball movement to the opponents advantage.

If we didn't have Truck & Talia, we'd be screwed; more than we already are.

I'd like to see Thompson get a few games. He did well in the final he played, and I think he is one that gets forgotten.

Fellas
this is my opinion in what I see. There are 2 KPP he can only stand BROWN,& CLOKE the rest will be to mobile for him
The club should have started Blooding Player's a year ago YOU don't learn much at training

Every year without fail....

30 goals from turnovers are whats hurting...... 30 goals in 2 games! that's just ridiculous and NO-ONE from our backline should be copping blame right now, maybe if we could play a game style that suited our skill level......

Truck gets called out evrey year and every year he honks his horn and takes some scalps. He'll be all good.

HONK HONK

I seem to remember that Truck conceded 23 goals last year, and you reckon there are only two forwards in the AFL the bloke can stand.
Get real!
We have had these threads about Truck each year for around six years.
Keep them up, because one year you will be right.
Not this one though.
