One of the greatest players to play for our club, no longer will.
I would have expected more posts on what a great player, and legend of the football club SOS was and is on this board.

A champion of the game, I hope everything goes well for SOS and his family now, and Carlton may never be the same again.

Milburn told me to tell you that he's sorry the way everything worked out.

He was just chasing the ball, but with SOS running back with the flight, he just saw red. No one likes to see a player leave the ground on a stretcher, but it's part of footy - it has been for over 100 years. It's a man's game and sometimes people get hurt.

He reckons he saw his mum in the crowd, that's why he was smiling and clapping.

Darren says he was glad to see SOS running around in the finals, saying the bump didn't really end his career.

SOS was a true champion and on behalf of Milburn and Red Rover Inc, I'd like to wish him all the best in retirement.

Loz,

What’s going on??

Are you hallucinating or something?? It appears you have JUBJUB on the brain – how unfortunate.

He ain’t here, but Red Rover’s here. Unlike JUBJUB, Red Rover’s not from Geelong, he’s no hick and he does have an idea about football. To be honest I’m no great fan of JUBJUB myself, mind you he makes some good comments in amongst the endless drivel.

Ignorance is continually whinging about a few hip-and-shoulders as if we crashed planes into Optus Oval. The way you’ve kept up your condemnation of those ‘cowardly acts’ I’m wondering whether you’re confusing the events of S1 with S11. They were both dark days, but the former should be put in perspective. You’ve got 2002 to retaliate.

I hope Silvagni, Porter and Koutoufides get their revenge - hold on………………maybe not. SOS will have to do it from the sidelines, Porter won’t do it flying the Carlton flag and as for Kouta, well Menschy’s waiting for him, hope he gets back soon.

No hard feelings.

Red Rover, you're a sh*t stirrer extraordinaire. Usually happens when there's nothing positive about your own team to talk about. Hope you get lost trying to find your way back here next time.

Loz, I too saw JubJub's post.

Thanks Old Narky, you may be onto something.

Seriously, most of my posts are fairly serious and football-orientated, but I occassionly like to have a bit of fun, harmless stuff really.

I hope you're not too old or narky to appreciate my poorly disguised attempts at humour.

As for nothing positive to talk about, you may be right, but let's face it, it's hardly the time of the year for good news at any club, unless you are a saddist and derive pleasure from seeing your own players get delisted. Maybe Lance Whitnall's trip to the fat farm may inspire positive discussion, but even then I think you're clutching at straws.

I guess you did have Jim Plunkett's success to rave about, so I suppose there are more positives at Carlton at the moment, hence my light-hearted banter.

Red Rover

P.S. Where's this infamous post of JUBJUB's? I don't think I've seen it.

See ya soon Blue pals

Old Narky .... I love it!!! :D

Actually, I'd be more than pleased to see Lance get an early start on his little 'health holiday' this time around. Might get him going a little before round 8 next season.

And I beg to differ about no good news. It's all good news during the offseason. Potential premiers, new players/saviours. Then the season starts and reality hits! ;)

I guess it depends how you look at it, Freo could be potential premiers if you have a good imagination. But if that's how things appear from your ivory tower, then I'm happy with that.

By the way I (seriously) saw Lance not long ago riding his bike along Victoria Parade; a sign you may yet get your wish of a lean-Lance for 2002. He was in his skimpy footy shorts, so I resisted the urge to call out to him, which would have no doubt caused him endless embarassment.

I suppose there is some good news at Geelong; we lost our best midfielder of all time and then offloaded the rest of our quality players to other clubs, a sure step towards maintaining our mediocrity status.

Geelong's good news will hopefully come in the national draft; with six of the first 40 picks, there's a possibility of getting non-hacks on our list. Hopefully this will compensate for the players we gave up and keep us around the middle of the ladder where we belong.

Jub Jub wrote here in this thread that SOS deserved the bump by Milburn and that Milburn didn't hit SOS as hard as he should have, hence my reply to that cretin. Rightly or Wrongly Jub Jub probably saw sense (or a moderator deleted it) and deleted his message but when i remember that incident live and fearing that poor silvangi was killed or paralysed i have to rebuke trolls like Jub Jub.

Loz,
I understand your position, no one likes to see players get knocked out and the way he fell looked very dangerous. Milburn's ill-tasted gesturing to the Carlton crowd and JUBJUB's comments are not condoned by the Geelong FC and it's supporters at large. Those types of things only inflame the situation and add to the bad blood.

I'm prepared to defend Milburn's bump to an extent, it was a charge and he deserved the suspension, but beyond that it was no different to a lot of hip-and-shoulders. That type of bump is nothing new in football, so to call it 'cowardly' or a 'dog act' is a big call given the number of similar incidents that have occurred over time. Also the ball was right there, so in comparison to the many behind-the-play hits, it doesn't really rate. And it wasn't as if Milburn knew Silvagni would land the way he did when he made the contact.

Silvagni didn't deserved to be hit the way he was, no player does and if that's what JUBJUB said, then it doesn't really surprise me. Once agitated JUBJUB can let him emotions boil over.

Ignorance seems to breed itself around the city of Geelong doesn't it ? (probably all of the hicks)
This post makes sense to me now. :)

Thanks for that Red Rover and i appreciate your stance. Still i did see the bump live and i may learn to forget but i don't think i could ever forgive Milburn if something Tragic happened to SOS. Still it's time to move on and the Blues and Cats both have to put this distasteful game behind them and move on to bigger and better things.
By the way i have been guilty of making my emotions spill over from time to time so Jub Jub is not the only one guilty of that.

I didn't delete it Loz and I wasn't told if someone else did as I should have been so I guess JubJub deleted it himself.
