Sound Problem

Encountered a sound problem from today and I have no idea what triggered it. I have system sounds such as logging on and I have video, but no sound to go with the video and I can't play MP3s.

I have a new Toshiba laptop with Sigma Tel audio.

Any ideas?

Actually I can play MP3s using the Quicktime player, but not video. Almost the opposite of Media Player which is the default player. DivX player plays video, but no sound.
