there's some talk Brissy may want to trade Llane Spaanderman. Kid was their first round pick 2 years ago, originally from East Perth, 199cm and about 104-105kgs at the moment, Key Position forward. He's had shoulder problems which have finally been fixed up and realistically if they want to trade him West Coast is his only preference. He's been given zero chances at Brisbane thus far.
If they wanted our 3rd round pick for him, given it's a pick in the late 40's, do you think that's a fair deal? I think he'd add something since he can be used as a big forward, back up ruck, and unlike gardiner he very mobile, and of course has a lot of potential since he's only about 19.
Your thoughts?

Yeah I like this kid, he seems to have a good attitude and is mobile for his size. I doubt though the Lions would give him away for pratically nothing though.

one of their guys suggested a 3rd round pick, since that's about pick 50 (if my math is correct), it's pretty much a give away. Threre won't be much left by pick 50 in this draft I reckon.

Lynch drops a mark said:
we already have too many 197cm + giants in the team, we dont need another one

we need guys who are 191-193 with a decent amount of weight too them

Agree with that.

If Beeck is delisted this season we're going to need to look at picking up one more genuine ruck prospect at some point in the future, but there's no rush about that.

We have tall ruckmen/forwards coming out of our ears.

Spanderman's best attribute is that he is very agile for his size. Something we cannot say about Hansen, Gardiner, Lynch et al.

I just wish someone like Hansen was 194cm, more agile and more robust. At 198cm, it doesnt quite work for KPP unless you are a freak like Richo.

And on the topic, I would get him for a 3rd rounder. He was pick 19, 2yrs ago, he hasnt done much at all but a 3rd rounder is nothing.

Certainly worth a go. Showed alot of promise before he was drafted and had shoulder surgery. Brisbane drafted him to replace Lynch at FF so they say.

I thught he was a backpocket??
sorry you're quite right, they moved him into defense. In his younger years he played wing/midfield etc.
Could be good when banners leaves - unless they decide to use Waters down back?? difficult decision.

Of the few times I saw him play for East Perth, he looked like a complete dud to me. To be honest I was amazed he got drafted at all. I would be very surprised if he was in the blue and gold next year.

We were never interested in drafting him back in '03. Were only ever going to take a punt on him if he slipped through to the rookie draft. However, to quash the rumour, Brisbane have reportedly tabled him a fairly large sum (more than you would think for a 2-gamer) and are keen to keep him on. I would love to have him on, he's certainly tall enough to play ruck and would be a better 3rd stringer than Beeck, who is set to be delisted. A 3rd round pick would be well worth the investment in the end. However, we're not gonna get him......just yet. He will eventually come back to us, as he was an Eagles fan growing up, but not for a fair few years yet.

At the risk of sounding facetious that is the most accurate post you have ever made on this Board. I agree with you 110%
There would be as much chance of him being on the WC List as there would be of Judd not being on it.

Spaanderman is a WAFL player end of story!

what you're saying is the Lions recruiters as well as the coach (if it's true they're going to re-sign him) are idiots?
I dunno, some people say he's a dud, but he can't be that bad if Leigh Mathews is willing to extend his contract. It's not like they have no talls

I dont know where you read or heard that they are going to re-sign him.
I dont believe that they are, their Recruiting Manager was advised that he would struggle to make it at AFL level but he still chose to draft him.

What is your problem with him, Mick?

I heard he simply doesnt get enough of it or do it often enough.

Well for one I don't agree with your comment that his agility was one of his best attributes I feel he was ok below his knees for a player his size but I was never impressed with his lateral movement particularly when he was playing as a key forward and Brisbane took him with a view to him developing into a key forward. Similarly, I thought he struggled with recovery when the ball went past him. He could certainly catch it ok but apart from that he just didn't appeal to me.

LOL, they drafted a guy who "would struggle to make it at AFL level" with their first round pick? That's crazy, you use your speculative picks on guys like that, not a first ronder. Either their recruiting manager is an idiot or you're wrong.

Another thing on this, if we trade McConnell for a first/second rounder, and, as stated we use only our first three picks, then we're not going to use our third rounder anyway, so really we pick him up for nought.

hmm ok, I must have got him confused with someone else because I seem to remember him scoring well for agility at the draft camp.

In that case, we do not need anymore oversized KPP who are not agile.

Dockers much more likely if anywhere IMO.

Actually if we were to pick him for a third round pick which we wouldn't use anyway, the price we pay is a spot on our list, or rather a player which we delist to make that spot.....Plus the player we don't get in draft this year (opportunity cost if I can remember economics properly).
