Moving onto another coach to "take you that next step" is probably what your team needs but your chairman today looked like a complete tool. He should step down as well if that's the best he can handle himself in a press conference, or hand the task over to someone else with a bit of humility, compassion and the tiniest amount of sincerity.

Hope Bomber doesn't get the gig for you guys also, he's a dill and you can do better.
He was terrible, almost as bad as Richmond in the infamous 50 seconds in Cairns........ Almost

After the Gold Coast Suns have sacked their coach Guy McKenna today, Caroline Wilson has reported that Mark Thompson’s manager Michael Quinlan has approached the club regarding the vacant position.

“Gold Coast are making it quite clear they didn’t approach Mark Thompson, he approached them via his manager,” she told 3AW’s Sports Today.

An interesting curveball which Caro says is yet to be confirmed in the situation, is the possible input from Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley in spurring Bomber Thompson’s interest in the Suns senior role.

LISTEN: Caroline Wilson on Mark Thompson's coaching future

“I believe that is Ken Hinkley, who spoke to Mark Thompson and also the Gold Coast Suns about the possibility of Mark Thompson maybe being available,” she said.

“I think Ken felt, as everyone felt that maybe Guy McKenna’s time might be coming to an end and if the job was to become vacant, then Mark Thompson should have a crack at it.”

After reports that James Hird could be sacked from Essendon’s coaching position as soon as tomorrow, Mark Thompson would then have a decision to make as for which position he would be most interested in filling.

“If it came down to the two senior jobs, Mark Thompson would prefer to coach Essendon.

“Although he would not remain at Essendon in any other role if he was offered the Gold Coast job.”

ken hinkley is the man if true

Bluey handled himself today like the champion he is/was. What a champion bloke. I really feel your board has cut off your nose to spite your face, hope I'm wrong. I love the Suns and I have my fingers crossed you get this appointment right so you don't blow your chance with your concessions. I wish you good luck, going forward from now as it is uncharted territory for your club. Standby for the Western Australian player exodus perhaps as well.

I'm still not convinced that there is a meeting. Just seems to be the popular opinion. Robbo is in the back pocket of Essendon. He wouldn't just tweet that.

So as far as I'm aware, Hird is planning to lodge an appeal. The players are trying to talk him out of it. If he does anyway, he's getting sacked.

Article.
ESSENDON coach James Hird faces the sack if he opts to go against club orders and appeal a Federal Court ruling on the Bombers’ drugs saga.

Hird has been told not to attend tonight’s club best-and-fairest ceremony at Crown Casino.

It comes after the Herald Sun revealed he plans to lodge appeal documents as early as Thursday with the Federal Court.

The Bombers board could meet Thursday for crisis talks.

It wouldn't happen that soon. He can't sign if he's overseas! Ha. At best he'd verbally agree to it, then sign the papers when he gets back.

The big red bloke on a 9 year deal? Massive news for BRM

For those interested, Bomber Thompson is due to talk tonight at Essendon's B&F. You can stream it on the Essendon website. His speech is marked for 8.40pm.

I just can't see why he would want to stay in that environment. At the Suns he gets a brand new clean slate, out of this vortex in Melbourne. That's got to be so appealing.

The blokes on SEN reckon tonight's the night for anything to happen. I agree with the idea that Witheriff needs to call Bomber directly and say "I've got a multi-million dollar contract here for you and the offer expires at midnight tonight - take it or leave it".

If he believes that then he should stay because he is clearly not the full chop as everything Essendon has done to this point has been the opposite of that
