Just watched the Bluey interview and it was heart wrenching, the guy is obviously fully invested in the club ( still says us and we) poor bastard is devastated and understandably so as next year may well see the coming of age of this group and the another coach will get the plaudits for his work.

I hope he gets another senior opportunity, god knows he deserves another chance

Is Witheriff standing down or was that just a rumour?

Do you have a link mate?

I agree but at the same time given the player unrest he had to go. He will learn from this and become better. He has still done magnificent things for this football club.

Now we get to watch Witheriff and his mates **** this up.

Very surprised about what is coming out about Guy being a poor communicator and not having the balls to tell people where they really stood. Maybe it came from having to be a fatherly figure for a group of teenagers. Considering though he was a student of Malthouse I was expecting the feedback to be that he was too tough and ruthless, just like Malthouse's other failures in Neeld and Watters.

I'm a little uncomfortable reading things that suggest we have to impress Thompson rather than the other way around considering this is almost universally acknowledged as the 'dream gig'. I want him but if he's not all in then **** off.

I think its got to be a bit of both ways. Coach wants to know the board he will be working with and what he is walking into but they need to ask him the question as to how much this appeals to him. If he umms and ahhhs on that one then walk away from him.

Is there any other precedent for club presidents/CEO's lying about approaching a coach then hiring them days later? I am trying so hard to convince myself he is lying but I don't think he is.
I don't remember Lyon actually announcing that he was leaving St Kilda until the day he was announced as Freo's head coach (which was the day AFTER Mark Harvey was announced to have been dumped iirc).

EDIT: From what I can find, it was actually the same day.

I'm pretty sure it went like this:
Day 1 (4/9/2011): Lyon first approached by Fremantle
Day 2 (late 15/9/2011): Ross Lyon resigns after the 2011 Elimination Final
Day 2 (late 15/9/2011): Fremantle sack Mark Harvey
Day 3 (16/9/2011): Fremantle sign Ross Lyon on a 4 year deal

Just food for thought....

Perhaps the hierarchy is not lying about approaching Bomber directly. I've heard that Bomber was asked on 360 as to whether he had been approached by the Suns and apparently mentioned something about a 3rd party approaching him.

Therefore no direct contact has been made as stated by the club.

I dont really see Guy as a failure like the other two. Never got to see success and needed to be assessed but still put a stamp on the club.

I guess Watters and Neeld did too but both clubs are furiously trying to rectify that.

Witheriff addressed the third party to some degree. He said he had not basically had anyone contact Bomber :drunk:

Thought Bluey did a fine job considering the task at hand. New club, steady improvement, very few young guns leaving.
The back end of the year was tough but I think it was Sunny made a comment about Round 22 against Essendon was our youngest team ever. 2 players with more than 80 games experience and only just lost! Nearly rolled Port towards the end.
Blew a prelim team away during the year at their own ground.
The 7-2 start was fools gold. We weren't mature enough to make the finals.
It just shows you how good Gary Ablett is to carry this team like he has.
I was a Bluey fan, but I certainly don't have a dressing room ear and it appears he lost some players. I'd like to thank the guy though just like I do with anyone delisted. They all have a crack and have set us up for success. I'd be amazed if we didn't have a proven coach locked away already. This club should be every coaches dream.

You need to relax TJB! You're going to go grey by tomorrow at this rate.

IMO JW is lying. But I guess we'll see what happens.

Even if we don't get Bomber, I'm satisfied we will be better off with someone else at the helm.

*bald

No problems, I haven't heard the interview, just an outsiders view on things. Cheers.

Thanks mate I hope I didn't come across too heavy your welcome here! I am just unstable lol

Sad news from where I stand. McKenna seemed a class guy and had his act together developing the Suns. All the best to him, and to you guys with selecting his replacement

Cannot believe how badly spoken Witheriff is for a guy who is a leading corporate lawyer and managing partner at a decent firm.
I think that's the giveaway that he's lying tbh

IMO he's trying to find a narrative that will shut everyone up and it's not going well for him

This is genuinely not an 'I told you so' post, but I love hearing opinions of other fans. You two were the most 'vocal' (for a lack of a better word) supporters of Bluey, and I'd love to hear what you blokes think of the whole coaching situation now. No doubt upset/annoyed that Guy was dumped, but I'd love to hear what your thoughts are!
I suppose the scope of how I feel almost entirely depends on who replaces him.

In black and white terms, I'm disappointed and from my position, it's the wrong decision.

Brown and Brennan's comments seem to give creedence to the rumours that he's lost at least some of the players. Those two aren't the most reliable characters, but it seems plausible.

Philosophically, I believe in strong leadership from the Coach and coaching staff, with good direction. Within this framework, I believe the players role is to act as cogs in the machine. I feel McKenna's overall style reflected my personal views well.
If the players have indeed forced this change, then I wholeheartedly disagree with the way the club is run from a philosophical standpoint.

On a micro-level, I fully understand and accept that if players don't 'play for' the coach, you won't get the best out of them. To this end, was it McKenna's job to show more personability and motivate the players? I don't think so, but in reality it probably falls somewhere in the middle.

What I'd be most furious about though, is if we've made this change without a suitable candidate sounded out. Some clear and obvious rules in life and football are that you don't trade down, and dont make change for the sake of it.

My personal view is that Thompson, Burns, Voss and Ratten are suitable replacements, in that order, for varying reasons. If anyone outside of this were appointed, I'd feel we've made a monumental error. I just can't bring myself to believe the club would be stupid enough to sack him without sounding out one of these guys though.

Campbell brown on MMM

Surprised the Suns had the... To pull the trigger..
If Ablett didn't go down with his shoulder, he thinks the suns would of played finals and would of been really hard to sack Mckenna.
It's been natural progression that's helped the team each year.. Not so much McKenna
Says Bluey didn't have the... To tell the players honest feedback and told them they were being rested.. Yet really were being dropped.
Says Clarkson is very upfront and you'll know where you stand.. And what needs to change etc..
Bluey tip toed around a few players. Players were confused as to where they stood with him.
Had heard of rumblings with players since last year..not being happy with Bluey
Said even billy brown less could coach the Suns to finals 2015
Thompson would be silly not to take the gig up
brown is a ****ing peanut (so is Brennan!) have about as much class.as a Frankston hooker and less scruples

I was thinking that...

Surely someone like him doesn't have to um and ar through a presser.
