Woosha ..... Ticks all the boxes ..... not compromised by the whole 'Easendon'* circus ..... just need to coax him out of his semi-retirement is all.
Yes,
certainly would like Woosha to coach. Has had a break, is a proven coach with premiership success behind him as a coach and a player. Played the game hard and tough and I feel he would be fantastic for us.Better then Bomber.
Maybe he is in on all of this as I just cant see why the Suns would sack Bluey without a successor already planned.

Woosha...
There was a big write up today in the herald sun melbourne.. That half the team were high on drugs in 2006 when they won the premiership..
And worsfold had no idea.. What was happening around the club
No thanks..
Fair enough, but that was the Cousins / Gardiner behind the scenes culture. Not a systematic doping policy ratified by the club.

How many coaches socialise with the players in their own time just to keep an eye on their social activities?
When all of that Eagles drug stuff broke into the media, it really changed the cultures of all clubs and players re social behaviour / habits and the scrutiny in that area is more closely followed now days. That's why we see players getting booted now when they were previously protected with issues kept in house and swept under the carpet.

He's a seriously good coach, would demand excellence and deserve respect from the playing & coaching group. He surely has to be seriously considered if the club are doing their due diligence by looking for the best fit for the position.

I'm a fan but we shouldn't have to coax anyone. They should be lining up.
SOA,
why should they be lining up.? Come on get real. We are a very young club with a great list, but a long way to go, and it doesn't help that so early in our existence we have sacked the original coach, we have lost Auld and his position has yet to be filled, we have very poor training and admin facilities compared to most other AFL clubs, we have a ressie side that didn't win a game this season, we only have 13000 members and we are fighting against the history of national teams in sports that have set up on the Gold Coast and failed. Not to mention we are up against the Titans whom have been here for some 7 or 8 years starting off well and then not so well over the past 4 seasons and as history shows on the Gold Coast is the fact that if the side is not winning, the supporter base drops off big time. The advantage the Melbourne , SA and WA clubs have is the fact that whether they are having a poor season or not, they still have tens of thousands of supporters that will still attend their games etc.In many of our home games there has been more opposition supporters at the game then Suns supporters, obviously because of so many Victorians that have relocated to the Gold Coast but still follow their Victorian home team.
ld think, a prospective coach considering the job as our coach would certainly be looking at these issues as part of their decision making .
Yes, Iam throwing up a lot of negatives here, but you must say it is fact. Lets be honest here, we have so many positives going for us, but we must recognise the negatives that we have to overcome.

A MAJOR review of the Western Bulldogs coaching structure has shored up Brendan McCartney’s position as senior coach.

But McCartney’s coaching panel faces key changes, with the 53-year-old handed specific growth areas in the review to address his shortcomings.

The Herald Sun understands McCartney has conceded he has flaws as a coach which he will aggressively address in the off-season, but his future is in no doubt for 2015.
...
The review has strongly indicated McCartney is the man to lead the Dogs forward, but must be surrounded by as much coaching depth as possible.

That will include more resources, possibly in opposition analysis, with fans frustrated by the lack of tactical moves put forward by McCartney at times this year.

Interesting. McCartney should be on as much media pressure as any other coach but isnt due to coaching an irrelevant club. The club is backing him however with more coaching depth and resources. Cant help but think what McKenna could have done if he got a chance to address his flaws and got extra resources.

Spot on. Fact is , all of these drug taking issues involving 6 plus players, led by one Ben Cousins and Chris Mainwaring was being done out of hours so to speak. Worsfold , being a pharmacist, soon recognized there was an issue with this group and apparently had private meetings with these players to sort out the problem. Whilst these players lied to him, it wasn't long after that Cousins started getting into all the problems he did and not long after Mainwaring died from an overdose shortly after his retirement. His death quickly sent a message. Worsfold was not involved in this shit, he desperately tried to eliminate this shit that was going on.
Worsfold would be ideal for us as the head coach imo.

Hey guys, don't mean to intrude, I just wanted to touch on the discussion of having Woosha as coach. I think its fair to say you can rule him out.

Woosha had a fair bit of private life drama last year, rumours are he was going through a messy separation with his wife and that coaching severely impacted on what he could do to prevent his family life imploding. The coaching gig at WC took it out of him, as evidenced by some of his pressers last year. I honesty think he would be a magnificent coach for your club, I mean in 2002 we went from a faltering cellar dwellar to top 8. The guy knows his stuff. As for the drug stuff, stuyd1 has it spot on. Worsfold did all he could to prevent the culutre that grew over here. (In fact one could argue we as a club have gone overboard on culture). So I wouldn't be taking any of the remarks made in here about how he was clueless or whatever. The guy would be a great coach, he will return to it one day, but I don't think it'll be next year.

Craig Hutchison was saying the Suns should be on a plane now to to track down Thompson and sign him up as coach before Essendon do. Just can't see them doing that.
If we do want him, that is exactly what we should be doing

But it would appear very few eggs are in the Mark Thompson basket

So there's seemingly two clubs that want Bomber to coach their team next year and he's left the country for two weeks? Such a strange situation. I guess the longer Hirdy keeps his job, the more likely it is that Bomber will sign for the Suns.

I'll be stoked if we get Bomber, but Bomber needs to chase us, not us chase Bomber. According to Caro his manager already has. We have the most desirable up and coming list in the AFL. If Bomber decides he wants to stick with the club of his name, then clearly he isn't the man for us. We need someone like Bluey McKenna (but obviously not Bluey) who will put his heart and soul into the job. I'm sure we'll have no shortage of applicants for the job. I don't think we need to headhunt anyone, they'll be coming to us.

My take on this is a little different, this is a multi million dollar business deal not rushing around trying to invite the hottest girl to the school formal, Bomber set the timing of the transaction by taking two weeks off, there is always emails when people are out of the country. I think we are acting like a club who values the role and the position they are going to nominate. I also rate the letter sent out by JW yesterday which clearly shows they are much further along in strategy than many on this board give them credit for. If Bomber IS the right guy you are NOT going to sign him before the Hird thing plays out and he assesses both positions, he will want to see whats on offer from both clubs first. I think the biggest thing going for us to attract Bomber is certainly the continuing drama that Essendon will have and it is hard to imagine someone wanting to go through that that does not have to. If I was in that boardroom in this position I would have my foot on Bomber in terms of communication, which I am sure they do with his manager, but I would be cool and patient about who I signed.

UPDATE
Garry Lyon has told Triple M’s Rush Hour that Mark Thompson could be announced as Gold Coast’s senior coach within days.
And the Lone Wolf believes ‘Bomber’ could take sacked Adelaide coach Brenton Sanderson up to Metricon Stadium as an assistant.
[iframe name="google_ads_iframe_/6773/o.triplem.sydney/sydney/sport/afl/news/2014/10/mark-thompson-says-the-gold-coast-may-try-to-lure-him-as-coach-next-season/_10" width="1" height="1" id="google_ads_iframe_/6773/o.triplem.sydney/sydney/sport/afl/news/2014/10/mark-thompson-says-the-gold-coast-may-try-to-lure-him-as-coach-next-season/_10" src="javascript:"[/iframe]
Thompson of course coached Sanderson for six seasons at Geelong.
Gaz also said that if it got to a situation where the Bombers caretaker coach was offered both the Essendon and Gold Coast coaching gigs for 2015, Thompson would opt for the Suns.
Many have queried whether Thompson and Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett could work together again after their falling out over the latter’s departure from Geelong in 2010.
But Gaz said that would not be a hurdle because the pair caught up at the Brownlow Medal count last week and are now ‘absolutely comfortable with each other’.
Hawthorn assistant Brendon Bolton is the only other candidate Gold Coast are considering, according to the Wolf.

Tim Watson on Sunrise this morning was adamant that the playing group ( of which his son is Captain) want Hird as the coach not Bomber. Essendon have themselves a very real mess that has no sign of an end at the moment

Yes thats puts a real spin on the issue for Essendon, makes it hard for them. The thing I cannot figure out is how is Hird affording to appeal when he has a real chance of not only paying his legal fees but also the other sides costs if he loses, I cant imagine a private person could afford to roll the dice like that

Both of them sound too big headed to me. Bomber sounds like he IS EFC, and Hird cares for nothing but his rep.

If the club has criteria like successful in finals etc as they apparently told Bluey who else apart from Bomber is available, Worsfold is out. If they can't find one and settle for a rookie and he doesn't work out we may blow our premiership window. I have to believe the club or AFL has someone sewn up as if not this truely may be the destroying of the club

That's rubbish about Hird. Hird is doing this for the players. Still important to remember that ASADA have showed no proof whatsoever and Essendon don't believe they have any. If ASADA would just show what evidence they have then everyone could move on.

EFC aren't giving Hird the support you are claiming. They are basically saying. piss off.
