It looks like the days of a slow Essendon outfit are over :) With recent additions in the last couple of years, particularly in this draft, our treacle midfield should be consigned to history.

This is just fantastic news. I think there is cause for real optimism in the next few years. Our forward line is now nothing short of power-packed. Strength on the lead, in the air, and speed & skill when the ball hits the deck. Yes, we still have a weakness down back in a KPP sense, but I think some of the fast attacking types we now have in abundance can hopefully play off half back and really make an impact.

The bookends are going to be a key to our improvement. Not many teams get a quality, experienced full-back and full-forward added to their line-up over summer. This, along with our pace, the new draftees settling in over time, and the likes of Dempsey, Dyson, and Ryder to hopefully keep improving, we are going to be a vastly different team from last year :thumbsu:
 
For sure.

Tell you what this influx of pretty highly rated midfield types puts real pressure on guys like Dyson, Winderlich and Cole to establish themselves next season. Should be a cracking pre season with them and a few of the older guys like Pev and Heff also looking over their shoulders.

Spot on. And isn't it great. If they can step up, they'll hopefully add experience to this potent mix we could now have.

With so many having to prove something, from our Coach to our Captain, to senior blokes like JJ and Campo, to our young blokes, and coming off a couple of crap years, i reckon we're the sort of side who'll be giving the Wiz Cup a fair shake.

I truly believe we are going to be the major improvers of '07. Obviously, there's no point getting ahead of ourselves, and no doubt the euphoria of the draft doesn't hurt my thinking. But not even considering the draftees, if we do get Michael and we "draft" Lloyd, that's one hell of an improvement right there. And that's not even considering the flexibility that will give us. We're busting out of good forwards, and now in 12-24 months time when our current crop of draftees can start having an impact, we'll be ********ing quick.

Gumbleton is a player you can build a team around. We've all seen how Jonathon Brown has torn us a new ar5ehole before, absolutely destroyed us. If Gumby can become that type of player, or anything approaching it, we are in for a treat over the next decade.

Bring on '07.
 
Im telling you all, seriously consider the odds for us finishing top 8 next season. Well worth throwing $100 on it :thumbsu:

Add Hird's final season to that mix. After his dominant performance against Brisbane late in the year, if his body holds up, we could hopefully see some Hird magic running like a golden thread through the season, showing the way.

tom hislop is a star :D shud be a great playa for the dons :thumbsu: hes got everything a good engine , awesome speed , arms & legs like arnie , and the best tackler i've seen :thumbsu:

he sounds more of a michael voss or riccuito type to me,we shall see though i wonder who gets numbe 3 now will gumby , ryder or even hislop get it i just took my jumper out of mothballs last week.

Isn't it a great time of year? Haven't lost a game, all the recruits are out and out champions, even the duds of last year start looking good (Campo), older players will turn back the clock, players who lack motivation suddenly find the hunger overnight.

Wondering when you'll ever reach the pinnacle again? 1954 seems like only a bedtime story? Club with massive debts over its head and an administration that turns over staff every 12 months?? Take a walk through the Doggies bistro on any given day. I think you might be able to see some red carpet underneath all that black crud from the past 50 years ;)

Lighten up son and don't be so defensive. I could have posted my comments on any other board......including my own. I just think it's amazing how all the world's problems are solved come draft time.

Very happy mate.
Couldn't have turned out better in my opinion.

Michael stiffens up our backline. Jetta and Hislop give us some run.

Just need a running, attacking half back flanker with good disposal now like Kennealy, Nicoski, Gilbee, McLeod etc.

Thats a spot open for Lovett, Dempsey or Dyson to make their own.
