This is a side issue to the whole speeding debate. You cant afford $50 but to a millionaire a speeding fine is a pi55 in the ocean.Should we link the monetary value to earnings or assets?

I've never even considered that, but it's a very worthy point! I'd be happy to see that.

And what eddiesmith says is also true.

Yeah, and you'll find the millionaires will be paying less in fines :D. Reminds me of my days at uni - the guys who got Austudy were the ones whose daddy owned a successful business and had, on paper, stuff all income.

I just got a speeding ticket in the mail - 72 in a 60 zone - $210 ********!! and 3 demerit points. It was in Sorrento and It was the only patch of road during the trip where I forgot to put on the cruise control.

I got one in March - 92 in a 80 zone (on a freeway) - $210 and 3 demerit points.

I lost another point somewhere and now I'm sitting on 7 demerit points. The thing is I don't do it on purpose, I try and watch my speed but both times the speed limit has changed and I haven't noticed the sign or slowed down in time. Whilst all the people passing me doing 130 on the freeway don't seem to get caught.

A few years back I was a speeder and would never get a fine, I don't think there was many speed cameras where I used to live. Now, I try my hardest not to speed and I'm still getting caught.

My biggest concern now is not the money but the demerit points, since i've only got a few left, and i'm stuck with the 7 for another 2 1/2 to 3 years.

Very ********ed off. About 5 months ago I got my first speeding fine, only cost $50 and didn't lose any points (even though I'm on my P's). And last week I got flashed again :(.. I really can't afford $50 again but I'm going to have to. Thing is, I didn't even mean to or realise I was speeding.. I ********ing hate that.. the people that always speed deliberatly never get done. So two fines in less that a year of having my license :(.

I thought the smallest fine is about $125. I think your lucky to get away with $50.

with a bit of smooth talking, got away with 30 and over - $575 still though.

(could have been worse - it was originally a $1600 fine)

Jeez? I got booked doing 150 in a 110 zone.. Got a $388 dollar fine for that. Same incident when the cop had me pulled over, one P plate was not there, got a $107 dollar fine for that. Lost my license, had 4 weeks to drive untill I was no longer allowed too. 3 weeks down the track got busted for talking on the phone (even though I wasn't) $138 dollar fine and a canary on two tyres and an oil leak.

It's fair to say I hate the cops now. :(

And they are the ones in the fast, expensive cars speeding all the time and probably not getting caught
I think there is a direct correlation too with expensive cars and sh*t drivers. The number of BMWs and Mercedes I see doing stupid things especially in the Armadale/Toorak area is simply amazing. It's like they think that the cars will drive themselves so they don't need to bother looking out for anyone else or concentrate on the road.

They don't speed, they just suck ass at driving.

Well i was only 7km over but I guess I am lucky, I'm in Perth so I think up to 9km or so it's 50 bucks. Will see what it is on my next one when it arrives in the mail (addressed to my dad.. doh).

Family Trusts ..meh.

The other one is to link it to insurance premiums. If speeding is directly related to accidents then dont you think its beholden to insurance companies to stop the bleeding? Each lost point should equate to $100 extra on your premiums.

My dads premiums would be over $1000 a car then if that was the case :p My car and my sisters car are all in his name, although I am smart, I ran up a speeding fine in my sisters car so they couldnt lay the blame on me, unfortunately my sister incorrectly got a parking ticket at the same time in another car, so she could prove she wasnt driving

Have the cops put away the speed cameras or something? I have been on the roads for a while now and enjoy speeding but am still to receive a speeding fine.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but I just found it weird. Has anyone else received one lately?
*Touch wood*

See, they make you think you're safe, and that's when they get ya.

I have no sympathy for those caught speeding 10km or more over the limit. Why would you do it? It's a damn shame we can't substitute these people for the many innocent killed on the roads.

I'd rather it be them than the people who are doing nothing wrong. I'm sure most reasonable people would feel the same.

2 police cars, one man on a motor bike, 10 mins down and around either side of a long stretch of freeway, get off the freeway, instinct says one way, 2nd guess yourself and go the other way, come round the corner on the bike and there are 3 cop cars at an accident and your busted. Go to court and get lucky to only lose your licence/s for 6 months.

BUT there is always a catch. In this case it is that now some poor bitch (me) has to drive you around for the next 6 months because you thought you were a ********ing invincible hero for 10 minutes and could have killed anyone else or yourself with your stupid ********ing antics. So yeah, 10 minutes glory = 6 months complaining and a lifetime of "yeah well seeing as I had to drive you round........" that I'm really gonna enjoy using. Oh and getting me to drive him round came with the condition he sold the bike as well.

Wow. I bet he enjoys asking the love of his life for a lift too.

Asking? what's that? Though the criticism of my driving is finally beginning to be less constant. Actually only once yesterday on the freeway, and I only got the first 3 words out before he finished the sentence for me and shut up "yeah well at least I've got a licence......"

Still I should cut him some slack. The commodore is dust covered under the house and it must be really hard for a hard and fast driving v8 petrol head to not be able to get behind the wheel and have sit in the passenger seat of a Daewoo hatchback with me driving....... poor bastard......... :p

I think you can only be booked for speeding up here if you're going 10km/h or more over the limit.
I don't think you can get booked driving downhill up here anymore either.

So, has he topped himself yet?

6 months of you bitching would be enough to make anyone take a long step.
