Couldn't find a thread dedicated to Spencer so here we go.

I have just purchased Sobering Thoughts. Anyone got this album yet?

Fait Accompli has been a recent purchase also and it is a bloody top album.

Anyone have an opinion on his best work?

Mighty large body of work. Personal faves are Axemans Jazz with The Beasts and highlights of dangerous life. Must admit have not heard much of his more recent stuff

A massive fan of the Beasts of Bourbon but never had got around to listening to Spencer's solo stuff. Apparently the last time the Beasts were together both him and Tex had a massive fight so no more Beasts ever :(

Well I can highly recommend both Fait Accompli and Sobering Thoughts.

John Nolan from the Powdermonkeys plays on some tracks on Sobering Thoughts.

I am going to further delve into Spencer's back catalogue over summer.

Spence v Tex would have been a good stoush. They both come across as very angry rockers!

I've got all Spencer's solo work. And i'd rate this 2nd - just behind Rumour of Death - however most of my friends(and my wife) rate Sobering Thoughts as his best yet. Rumour of Death will probably always edge out anything he does for me simply because of Execution Day.
Getting some great reviews from picky reviewers as well. Mind you it can't be that good it didn't get nominated for an ARIA :p

Good work LL,

Some critics I have heard have called Sobering Thoughts Album of the Year by a local artist. Sue to rate well in the EG annual lists.

On first listen I thought Sobering Thoughts was a tad below Fait Accompli, but now have changed my mind. I look forward to picking up a copy of Rumour of Death and giving it a run.

Do you have the new solo album by Brian Hooper or Penny Ikinger?

I got Penny's about a month back and am loving it! Really really nice work. Electra (her first) is brilliant and this one is just as good. HIGHLY recommended.
Haven't got Hoop's new one yet but have seen him do it live twice! He's so well organised he doesn't have copies for sale at gigs:p
His finest solo effort so far no question. Really developing into a great singer songwriter.
