Anyone know of this IT training institute at all? I went to an information day the other day with them and they sounded fairly interesting.
Just want to know if anyone has been to them, or knows of anyone who has been to them and what you or they thought of them.:)

Did the Diploma of E-Business Support course there.

Personally i wouldnt recommend it. Not many (like about 5%) finish their courses on time so they end up forking out more money. Thats mainly because a fair few modules have unrealistic completion dates.

If you've got the money then good luck to ya. My course ended up costing about $19,000. $1,500 a month is a fair heap to pay.

They also state that the time it takes to find a job at the end is about 5 weeks. Well 5 and a bit months later and im still jobless. The average is more along the lines of 4 months. Everyone i made friends with at the course ended up getting a job on average about 4 months after they finished.

Age is an important factor. I know two twins that finished the course as Dux's, one with a 94% and the other with a 96% average and finished 100 hours above schedule, and they havent got a job yet and they finished about...8 months ago!!! Mainly due to the fact that they are 19 and have no prior experience!

Its ok and you learn a lot...but my time there was less than pleasureable and im still wihtout an IT job despite them guaranteeing a job!

Is that the one at 493 St Kilda Rd? If so, my dad works in the same building.

Don't actually know anything about Spherion, just thought I'd give that anecdote.

If you're going to pay 19k to do the diploma, you may as well do an IT degree at uni which will only cost about 15k. You can also get Austudy by going to uni as well. There should be some kind of UAC (University Admission Centre) where you can find out what you need to qualify to get into a uni degree.

Don't waste your money... I did the Techie course purely to get the qualification and I can tell you now a sheet of foolscap with a kids scribbling over it would've been more valuable.

Macca, did you have to also have to do a little 3 page multiple choice test to see which would be the best Diploma for you to do?
From mine I got told I could do any one that I wanted from my results, will my misses could do any bar the advanced Diploma. (It's good having proof that I did better at something;))

Sweet Jeebus! *_$19000_* !?!?!?

Correct me if I'm wrong - but wouldn't a 3-year University degree in IT be significantly cheaper than that? (3 years of HECS)

Did Spherion used to be called the Computer Power Training Institute in SA?

If so - I'd be wary of it. I knew a lass (former girlfriend, as it happens) who did a course there many years ago. They guaranteed her a job at the end of the course, and indeed she did get a job at the end, but it was apparently very menial and the salary was close to the poverty line. She quit shortly after starting, thoroughly disillusioned. The last I heard of her she'd become a naturopath!

Yup, did the aptitude test. I got told i could do any course. I originally chose Diploma of Business Computing (was the highest one possible) and was doing well until a personal tradegy which left me unmotivated for a fair time...failed an exam and swapped courses.

My course was $15,000, but because i swapped courses half way thru and also went a fair bit overtime i had to pay an extra few $$$

It did use to be called Computer Power...then changed to Interim Technology, now its Spherion.

I did a short course there a couple of years ago...

Took me a long time to find a job. Didn't learn THAT much. Haven't thought about it much til now, but it was probably a waste. Not that I paid ;)

It seems that after a while they get a bad name so they change to a new one so people don't associate the bad name with the new name .

Seems most people end up rather dissatisfied with their service yet they keep roping people in.

Lockyer: Was the supposed job placement officer as much help to you as hip pockets in a singlet? This was the major beef I had with them and I'm not surprised to hear you say finding work afterwards wasn't the way you'd believed it would/should be after forking out so much.
