Are Redback spiders still a thing ? I reckon it's been 20+ years since I've seen one.
About 6 years ago, I adopted a neighbour's dog that I walked a lot at night around East Bentleigh, etc, and I saw heaps of redbacks. I also spotted several around my house. There's a lot of greenery near me.
They usually weave what look like disorganised webs between the ground and a fences or a tree.
However, I haven't seen one for about 3 years. Weird.

Bought a new house in 2024 in a new estate and the ****ing joint was covered in massive spiders. Previous owner never sprayed or did anything about it. It has certainly helped my phobia of spiders constantly being surrounded by them.

Much better now with a few regular sprays but the occasional one still pops up inside. Plenty in the backyard come out at night.

That's one of those spider wasps. Looks like the hunstman is paralyzed. They are no match for them.

The wasp would have laid it's eggs inside while it was alive.

And the larvae will eat everything and leave the organs til last to keep the meal as fresh as possible.

They are the real life xenomoprhs. Just thank your lucky stars they aren't the size of a dog.

Happy holidays!
When I lived up North we'd get mud wasps (they call them dauber wasps) all over the joint. They build these mud cocoons with at least three big spiders in them everywhere. Even inside if you left the door or window open. Must be alot of spiders around because the place was still covered in spiders and these mud wasp nests were everywhere.

Its freaky what they do but its only spiders so who cares.

My missus hated them. She breeds all sorts of big chunky native spiders. Used to think they were evil.
