I have just begun to get a bit involved in this English spy show. It is very good.
Can someone tell me what time frame it is set in . I heard the cold war mentioned in an episode I had recorded . Is it set in the eighties?

I think ten series were made and the last was aired in the UK 2009 or 2010, so it probably started around 2000 or 2001. It has a present day setting. You may have noticed mobile phones, even MI5 didn;t have them in the 80s (car-phones with satellite links, probably).
The "cold war" may have been mentioned as "no longer in the cold war" or maybe in connection to the Russians, and the mistrust that still exists in the show as a hangover from the cold war (and probably in real life, along with the drunks and nutters that have been Russian presidents and prime ministers post-Gorbachev; as well as not always conforming to the Wall Stret model of progress).

In the show, there is almost a cold war between MI5 and MI6, and between MI5 and the CIA's UK operations.

Set in present day. The references to the Cold War Occur throughout the entire series as some of those who work for MI5 did so during the Cold War and some of the 'adversaries' did so to. A great deal of the story throughout the entire series includes the Russians also.

Really good show though.
