Congrats to Lee Spurr on being upgraded. Is a great running flanker type with solid skills and may be a smokey to play tomorrow night?

All the best to him and it is well deserved.

Will be a definite. If they've upgraded him, he'll play. No point in upgrading him otherwise.

Probably come in for Suban I assume.

Based on the performance of JVB and Grover on the wekeend, it would have been easy to just bring one of them into the squad, and not elevate anyone, but I am really happy to see this move.

I had a little worry that Ross Lyon might not give the Rookies / youngsters a chance, but maybe not...

feel a little bad for Grover though... like others have said... thought he was best 22?

Was everywhere on twitter and on the afl site under the twitter heading.
Sportsnewsfirst had it as well and we know how credible they are

This Suban the one subbed for Neale against the saints, I love Subes but he has not hit the highs so far this season and Ross is making a call I would say. Neale could be the sub again.

Lower would be in the mix as well?

Lower's on the injury list 1-2 (quad), hope Spurr's not cover for Fyfe, no sense in playing ducks and drakes at this point, he could be almost two weeks into recovery if he was getting surgery, could they be that nervous about needing cover for a late withdrawl if the plan was for him to play the year out?

Probably just deserved the upgrade in the coaches eyes, good luck to him anyway I'm sure we'll be seeing him in purple soon enough.

Is Spurr upgraded? It would say he has been on Freo's website. Not sure about this but happy to be proved wrong.

What do you mean - not sure about this, is that Spurr or the story? This bloke is a gun - IMO he should have been drafted based on his ability and performances in the SAFL with Centrals. The Purple has picked up a true diamond in the rough for a rookie price - He will brain them if given the opportunity - well done to Him and to the Freo Brains trust.

I'd prefer to see him debut against GCS than play against Carlton tomorrow night. I think we're sorted team-wise for Friday unless there's some dramas with Fyfe. If Fyfe doesn't play, they should just replay the interview he gave with Bruce Special before the game last Friday.

Good move upgrading Spurr. Has been named to play for Peel at the weekend though. Communication problem or an indicator for the near future?

Im sure he has been upgraded to mark one of the dangerous smalls for Carlton. He would be ideal for one of Garlett or Betts

good thinking, Fits in with Suban replacement and was wondering how we cover both these players. No sense to me in upgrading a player who doesn't then get a game. Garlett in particular can rip it up at Subi, wanted to see Hill tag him last year (to break his own tag and stop a dangerous player) but didn't happen.

Spurr gives us quite a bit of flexibility in the back half - really excited to see him get a game.

Can win a fair bit of the footy himself too - I think he will be a good match for our defense.

Agree completely Spurr is a great player. Reliable, versatile and has the ability to change games. Was a exceptional footballer in the SANFL always deserved to be drafted only p*ssed off, you took him and not us.
Good luck Lee.... perseverance has paid off!

Everyone saying it makes no sense to upgrade spurr and not play him today needs to look at rookie selections australia wide, and history. You only have to look at Tom Couch, who was upgraded on the 29th of March this year and has yet to debut for Melbourne despite strong form in the VFL to see promotion is no guarantee of selection gameday.

It means you are close to the 22, but not necessarily in it. Stop embarrassing yourselves, and do your due diligence before making grandiose statements which do not stand up to scrutiny.
