How very Freo to turn on a rookie after a couple of mistakes in a game where the entire team is getting flogged.

Especially when he's one of the few having a crack.

So true, he's playing only his second full game and already he's shown an ability to rack up good numbers, everyone's made mistakes today but **** it, let's make a 3rd gamer a scapegoat

mate i never turned on him
i wasnt part of the smug group on here who swam with the tide and lauded him for one okay performance against port ffs
i retained my judgement untill we played a decent team
and after suggesting slvagni may have been a better option ,"silvagni in hill out" became the running joke in this board
if you think he is one of our better players out there right now well weve got bigger problems than the scoreboard suggests at present

One of our best today kept Cyril quiet until Yon moved Ibbo onto him in the 2nd qtr. That mistake you allude to he did get pushed in the back as he kicked it and as usual no one laid a shepherd for him. Did miss a tackle or two but tried his heart out and was a hell of a lot better than Ibbo/Duff/Johnno (when in the back line) today. Also set up a few goals forward so the negative post about him is baffling.

3 clangers for 2 goals so far
how very freo of us to toast a rookie after 1 acceptable game

True you never turned on him, you are just quick to bag him:rolleyes:

You can't make a judgement until he's played at least a dozen games. Our biggest problem isn't a rookie, being paid a base salary in his third game. We have others being paid massive salaries in the prime of their careers age-wise who should have the finger pointed at them before Spurr.

i agree, it maybe yester year stuff, but dollar v`s desire, i`d take desire any day,it is a shame that too many talented footballers(kids) get so far into the system only to wait for either an injury or win coaches favor to show what they have, let alone be given time enough to show, i guess it`s the nature of the beast now can be very cut-throat and unforgiven.

Spurr looked pretty good for someone who's still adjusting to the pace of AFL football. But I'm not sure he's damaging enough to justify selection once your young players come on. Small/medium-sized defenders really need to have damaging disposal or plenty of pace. Spurr looks like he has fairly neat disposal, or will have once the wrinkles are ironed out, but he doesn't have the sort of weapons he will need to hold his spot in a top team.

Assuming his awareness will improve with a couple of games under his belt, the question mark I would have at this point is over his kicking skills. He looks like Broughton without the elite kick. Can anyone that has seen more of him vouch for his kicking?

His kicking was good for Peel. Probably found the pace a bit hot against Hawthorn. Plus he was surrounded by a bunch of soft, lazy, no hoper's for most of the day.

His score involvement where he centered (on his non-preferred?) was pretty good.

Yesterday was a mess all 'round, I hope he gets another full game next week at home.

Yep, I'll vouch for that. His kicking was very impressive for Peel. Let's hope he can adjust to the pace of the big league.

i hope we persist with some of these new guys and give them every chance to prove themselves. We already know some of the players we have in the team are not up to it, so they need to be replaced at some point. The sooner the better.

Problem is games like yesterdays don't let players really show their stuff. The game plan as a whole is a little stifling.
