Tim Duncan a triple double (21,20,10, wow!)
Robinson 11 points, 17 rebounds

Seems like New Jersey choked in the stretch, they just stalled in the last quarter. That said, I'm only basing that on the nba.com play by play commentary.

Congratulations Spurs. Great for the Admiral to go out on a high...

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well done 'The Admiral' on a great career.

Timmy D you are a Superstar.

Well now I'm off to play in my own bball GF tonight.

Don't forget the 8 blocks to go with it
He helped shut out Kmart, and restrict him to just 3-23 shooting. Good win, at one point I thought that the Nets were going to get a roll on and jump to a big lead, but the Spurs never let them get away.

YES!!!!!!

Well done Spurs!!!

Congratulations to The Admiral for such a grand career!

David Robinson, have a ring bro.

Oh man, I think I've lost 5 years off my life after this NBA season.

First off, I'm gonna admit one thing. I cried. After all the celebrations had ended and everything I burst into tears like a kid.

This is my dream. Before the season I said to myself 'Jeez, it would be nice to send David Robinson out a winner', but realistically I never thought it could come true.

“To finish my career in the NBA Finals and to win the championship,” Robinson pondered. “that is a plan only written by God.”

David was the initial reason why I gained an interest in the NBA. I saw a picture of him once and once I learned who he was, and what team he played for by watching TV as a kid, I was hooked. I was a Spur. Watching him take out a ring on his final season in San Antonio just warms my heart to no end. To make it even sweeter, David played an absolutely outstanding game today and that will remain in my memory for years to come. David bows out as the Spurs' all-time leader in points, rebounds, blocked shots, steals and games played and now TWO RINGS.

The MVP. The man doesn't have cornrows or talk smack, but daaaaaayum he does the job. Nearly a quadruple double and lead from the front. Timmy D, NBA and Finals MVP. That man is an absolute marvel.

Now, SPEEDY CLAXTON! I've been supporting this guy since he came to SA. I thought his ability to run the floor and play at a high intensity may help us improve enough to get to the finals. But, I never expected his jumpshot to come up that big in the clutch minutes. Speedy, the clincher!

"People have doubted me throughout my career, but if I'd listened to them, I wouldn't be in the spot I'm in," Claxton said.

Speedy, you are the man!

Tony Parker got us here. He matured big time this season. Improved his shot, learning each game and he deserves alot of credit for this title.
In true TP style "Tonight was Speedy's night," Parker said. "I'm very proud of him."

Stephen 'Action' Jackson. A man that could barely get a spot on a team halfway across the globe to the boy that comes up BIG TIME in the dying minutes of the NBA finals. He was stinking it up big time but didn't let that get to him and came up HUGE in the last. The man is clutch. Deserves some massive props and killed off his old team. Talk about karma.

Maaaaaaaaanu Ginobili. The X-Factor. Added athleticism, shooting, penetration, everything. The man drove us to the NBA finals in the latter part of the season and really came into his own in the Playoffs. He will only grow in time and he has won a ring in his first season. Outstanding.

Bruce Bowen often goes unrecognised for his efforts, but during the playoffs he has had the job on players the ilk of Marion, Marbury, Van Exel, Nash, Finley, Dirk, Kobe, Kidd and Jefferson and has done a tremendous job. The Spurs plan has always been based around defence and Bruce is THE BEST perimeter defensive man around. Much deserved winner.

Our vets, Kerr, Willis, Smith, Ferry.
Kerr: The man is a freak. He just keeps on suprising me with his antics. Losing him to Portland hurt. Getting him back was ingenious. He saved us against LA, and NJ and his off court presence is invaluable.
Willis, Ferry and Smith all get a ring. All very much deserved. After 19 seasons, Kevin finally wins! All 3 have had very illustrious careers and deserve success.

My main man Malik Rose is sensational. He has been a huge influence on the playoffs and this is his second ring. Malik, one of the heart and soul players of San Antonio and his contribution should not be taken for granted.

Guys and gals, I support San Antonio. We have not had the successful title runs similar to the Bulls and Lakers, so this title means an unbelievable amount to me, especially since it is the last time the inspirational David Robinson steps out on the court in a players role.

People on the BigFooty Basketball board, I appreciate you all for listening to my ramblings over the past season. We are all loyal NBA fans here and I await next season to share with ya all.

As you can probably tell by now, I'm a tad emotional. What a storybook finish to open the SBC Center with a NBA Title, and to send #50. David Robinson into retirement a winner, and a legend.

The San Antonio Spurs: NBA CHAMPIONS 2003!

I wanted the Nets to win, but it was good to see a bunch of genuine nice guys win for once. When Robinson and Duncan came out with about 50 seconds to go... that's what dreams are made of. Now if only Byron, Rodney, Kenyon et al weren't an incompetent pack of no-hopers, we could have had a famous game 7... but I guess there's always next year.

Good onya matty. The Nets needed to have everyone up and running, but the Spurs controlled the series and were deserved winners. Great to see the Admiral go out on a high making an excellent contribution.

It`ll be interesting who SA gets to play alongside TD next year.

Yes, congrats to the Spurs, congrats to matty and the other Spurs fans on here as well.
I'm a Knick fan and a Geelong fan in the footy so i've never had the victory feeling, only the heartbreak of defeat. So lap it up and enjoy it while you're the champions.

I was going for the Nets but when the final buzzer went and you saw the emotion, in particular from guys like Robinson, Willis and Smith. I was happy about the outcome.

If Kidd sticks around, the Nets will be back, particularly with two all stars in the making with RJ and K-Mart.

Seeing Robinson like that makes me feel for poor old Patrick Ewing. Olajuwon and Robinson combined got 4 rings and Ewing was probably better than both. Why oh why couldnt the Knicks bigwigs put a competent supporting cast around the big fella? Still glad they didnt otherwise Jordan would have had more competition.

olajuwon > ewing...

in houston's first championship win.... (vs the knicks)

ewing had the better supporting cast...

This series reminded me so much of that 94 Rockets v Knicks finals series in the way it was played. A defensive slog throughout.
Unfortunately Ewing has his finals record 30 blocks in a finals series beaten by Duncan who had 31. I guess you can still stay Pat has the record for a 7 game series though :D

Yeah, Olajuwon had no one in 93-94, and had an aging Clyde the Glyde in 94-95. Olajuwon > Robinson > Ewing.

David's retirement is probably the signal of the end of the stereotypical 80s-90s centre mould, now that Hakeem and Ewing hung up the sneaks last year.

I dont know about that...the Rockets had a good supporting cast in Horry, Cassell, Smith etc...they were a good team. Ewing had no help.

- nba's best defense (fourth lowest opponents points allowed in nba history since start of shotclock)
- charles oakley (at his peak)
- john starks (at his peak, all-star that season)
- derek harper (classy veteran who won 2 finals games single-handedly)

hubert davis... charles smith..

hakeem had otis thorpe, mad max, kenny smith... decent at best..
(cassell was a part in championship #2... along with finally some legit 'help' in clyde drexler...)

interestingly tho... that 93-94 season... ewing didnt make any all-nba teams.... hakeem, robinson, shaq...
