Let’s give this a crack, and see what kind of response we get. It only takes one or two positive replies to get a good outcome.

Recently, I completed a project to record the result of every QAFL match (premiership games only). This covers 8,339 results, fixtures and finals, from 1904 to 2022. There are still some minor items to address – but the job is largely complete.

I’m not here to discuss the value or merits of such an endeavour. All you need to know for now is it is done.

But why stop there?

I grew up in a SQAFA household, so I’ve always been interested in the SQAFA/BAFL comps. I have started gathering results from 1970 to 1999. So far, a huge percentage of First Division results have been recovered, but Second Division has been particularly barren. Still a long way to go, of course.

Here is my request:

If anyone has any Senior results for the SQAFA/BAFL competitions (1970 to 1999), please let me know. Even if you only have details for one club, one year, or one round, your info could help complete this improbable jigsaw.
 
Hey Toucan. Have you complied a list of grand final winners including reserves ? That would be cool to see as I dunno how much data is out there especially in the ressies ! I may have some results from some years in old agm’s for the strathpine swans 👍
 
G'day Gone Akers - thanks for the reply. This is the kind of positive response I'm hoping for.
Here is what I've got together so far:
  • As mentioned, every QAFL* Senior result, all 8,339 of them. From 1904 to 2022, there are only 49 scores that could not be found (yet) - but the results are known (or could be determined).
  • Haven't tried for Reserves/Colts/etc results in any form so far. Its patchy - a lot can be found, a lot can not.
  • For SQAFA/BAFL/AFLSQ, I've got every ladder and final result for every grade and division, Seniors & Reserves, First & Second Division. Basically, its covering 1968 to 2005.
  • Broadly speaking, for fixtures, I've got together about 80% of the results for First Division Seniors. Second Division (& beyond) has been difficult - and I have not even attempted to uncover Reserves fixture results. If the info comes forth, I'll definitely gather and consolidate it into one source (but I'm not overly confident in this area).

If you let me know the Strathpine years you can provide, I'll let you know what I'm missing from those years.
I'll also gradually post Year Summaries of where the work is at. It won't interest a lot of people - and that's perfectly fine - but I think it is a worthwhile pursuit that should have been done long before now.

I kept similar records for my old club (Yeronga) - but these days feel I would like to help ALL clubs. And honestly, I am trying to appeal for help from knowledgeable people in Clubland so that I can avoid trawling through archived newspapers that may (or may not) have the results recorded.

Here is an indication of what I need for Noosa (Play: Win-Loss) for Home & Away. Finals are sorted.
1993: 20:13-7 All Results known - 10 Scores missing
1994: 20:16-4 All Results known - 11 Scores missing
1995: 22:19-3 18 Results & Scores missing
1996: 20:15-5 18 Results & Scores missing
1997: 16:12-4 14 Results & Scores missing
1998: 16:14-2 14 Results & Scores missing
1999: 16:11-5 All Results known - 3 Scores missing
2000 & thereafter: Got it all

As you can see, there is a lot missing from the 90s at present.

Some more info for the thread nobody asked for…

As previously mentioned, I have all results from Season 2000 on. For the seasons prior to that, I have summarized each year from 1968 to 1999 to show the clubs involved in each SQAFA/BAFL Division. For the First Division competitions, the number of games played is listed in each year, together with the number of games with unknown results or missing scores.

This will get a bit repetitive – but if you have info for any season, any club, any game, please get in touch. The details needed will come from an unexpected source – but if you have an old newspaper clipping, a footy record (eg, Hi-Flyer), or a club’s old annual report, you may be the answer we need.

I appreciate that a lot of people will not be interested in this part of our local football history – and that’s okay. To those people: sorry for wasting your time.

Let’s see if we can figure out this puzzle.
