Any reason Neon is named on the ext. bench?? He's not in doubt is he?

SC/DT question huh?

Anyway, Leon has been in doubt for the last few weeks, but has still played.

Won't say he's guaranteed, but we do have an 8 day break, and he does start a lot of games on the bench anyway.

Likely to play, more forward then on the ball.

I agree that it's important not to make too many changes. That said, it's a shame that there's no room for such a highly skilled and influential player like Marty Clarke. Does that mean he won't get a call up for the finals?

I'd say Marty Clarke is fighting with Wellingham, Toovey, Goldsack and Johnno for 3 spots come September, although it may quickly become 2 spots if Sidebottom gets another 30+ disposals in the VFL this week.

Beams has already sewn up a finals spot in the 22, a great achievement for his 1st year, and "Rusty" aint that far away either.

I think we can play him next week if we have third sewn up and next week will be a better test for him as the doggies are a finals quality side

Whilst the round 22 result will be of no consequence (provided results go our way and we are guaranteed 3rd spot after this week), is it a wise idea to "rest" players on the eve of finals?

As I''ve said, we do not want to flirt with form. We need to strike while the iron is hot.

Dawes will have his time next year..
Hope sidebottom plays.. Could be a finals specialist just like in the TAC.. will be good to see how he goes in the next two games leading up to it..
Dick's shoulder isn't 100%, i guess if there is going to be another out it would be him..

I do agree we shouldn't be resting payers but if third is guaranteed I don't think one change will be detrimental to the side we could bring in Rocca for say Dick who has been in and out of the side anyway to test the 3 big man setup if it works we keep it that way if not we can drop him.

If there ever was a time for the "Rocca experiment" this week was it.

Unfortunately it looks like it's all but over for the big fella.

We cannot afford to play him next week leading into the finals series. He also cannot play during the finals series. Too many risks associated with Rocca and we do not want to flirt with form.

This young team has been brilliant.

Might just want to secure 3rd spot this week and give him a run in the dead rubber next week.

If Josh plays well with Wood, that spells trouble for Rocca I imagine. If it doesn't pan out for Wood / Fraser and Cats beat Dogs and we beat Sydney - stitching up third - then Rocca is a chance.

But I'd not be thrilled to have all three. I don't want Dick replaced for the versatility it provides us re Thomas, Davis and Didak.

However, an article on the Collingwood site on Lockyer mentioned Lockyer's role as a small forward, which could suggest that Dick could go out for Rocca. If Lockyer is plonked in the forward line with Medders, then we would retain the flexibility around the ground with Davis, Thomas and Didak.

We have seen that the 3 big man setup does work with Dawes, Cloke and Jack. However, I do not think it can work with Pebs simply because there are too many unknowns associated with Rocca. I wouldn't be replacing Dick because his forward line pressure, skills and ability to kicks goals has been brilliant this year. I had my reservations about Dick but he has been an awesome find.

We aren't secured 3rd unless the WB lose this week.

And, just say the WB do win against the Cats, it isn't "dead rubber" next week because if they beat Geelong and then beat us, we drop to 4th and all of a sudden we play Saints instead of Cats.

if we have 3rd spot by the end of this week rest maxwell beams cloke swan bring in blight sidebottom rocca and marty clark.

talk about disturbing the side we saw how sluggish the saints stars who were rested were on Sunday do we really want to risk the same thing happening coming into a final.

22 selected was just updated;

COLLINGWOOD v SYDNEY SWANS
Collingwood

HB: Sharrod Wellingham, Nick Maxwell, Tarkyn Lockyer
C: Alan Toovey, Dayne Beams, Scott Pendlebury
HF: Brad Dick, Travis Cloke, Paul Medhurst

Foll: Josh Fraser, Dane Swan, Shane O’Bree
I/C: Ben Johnson, Leigh Brown, Leon Davis, Cameron Wood

No surprise, unless one of Dick, Davis or Wellingham are too sore, we may not have a late change.

Win lose or draw against the Swans we cant lock in third spot now - unless we win by 15 goals or so. To do that we'll have to beat the Bullldogs next week.

So we're in an interesting situation where we have an effective "dead rubber" against the Swans in Rd 21 and a live game for third spot in Rnd 22 against the Dogs.

Bad news for Rocca who might have been hoping for a game next Sunday if we were going in to Round 22 with third sewn up. The Dogs win against the Cats has killed that.

hopefully we can build up our percentage against the swans.... meaning that even if we lose to the dogs next week (assuming not a big loss), we might still retain third spot
