Surely, in the big scheme of things, $3.5mil isn't that much to an airline like Emirates? $1mil must have been a bargain!

In Australia Collingwood is bigger than any of those clubs overseas. If they want market share in Oz then they should listen to what Pies are asking for, where else will they get that exposure.

What we did for Lexus & Eremites in Australia cannot be underestimated !

rent like everything goes up, so sponsors cough it up if you want Australia's best billboard!

Rumour is that Emirates have approached the West Coast Eagles to establish a sponsorship agreement.

Common knowledge that Emirates are looking at developing an Australian corporate base in Perth. Would make sense to sponsor the biggest club in that state

Subway is not killing our children, while McDonalds and KFC are the two major contributors to Australia being ahead of America in the obesity race.
But Emirates are owned and operated from a country who does this;

Not worthy of sponsoring us IMHO.

What?

So we won't have a sponsor next year? According to you all corporations are responsible for their countries behavior?

WTF?

I'm pretty sure the Emirates aren't a Saudi corporation...and the article makes a clear point of saying Kuwaiti women have far more rights in their country, than women in Saudi Arabia. And, again, the Emirates doesn't belong to either country. So, umm, yeah, how about those boat people?

What utter crap

The article you quoted refers to a country called "Saudi Arabia".

Emirates airline is from a place called "Dubai" which is an emirate within a country called "United Arab Emirates" (UAE).

Different countries. Kind of like mixing up Australia and New Zealand.

More disappointed that members don't care where the money comes from.

Where do you draw the line though.. we are all using oil every day.. wearing clothes made by child slave labour.. and in a 100 different ways living off the backs of starving people in 3rd world countries

It is true that if Ed were to enter politics he would likely side with labor, this does not make him a left winger though. In terms of the major parties there are no socialist policies any more. You only have to think about Rudd's hard line stance on asylum seekers to understand that. Ed also lives in Toorak and would be unlikely to invite Billy Bragg around for a beer.

I would like the club to start by changing their reliance on gambling revenue. North Melbourne have done it so why can't we?

I like how the media says the deal is derailed...lol Ed may not get his 3 mil but he will get close, they wont lose emirates as a sponsor.

OK, so you can dig out articles about exploitation of Indian migrant workers in Dubai. If you look, you can find articles about terrible racism towards Indians in Australia ...

http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/4912...-australia-attack-abuse-sikh.htm#.Unt0tmt5mSM

... or articles about poor treatment of Australia's aboriginal population ...

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-05-24/death-in-custody-report-alarms-indigenous-leaders/4712056

... or the brutality of police in Australia ...

Maybe Ed and the members are more worried about what goes on in this country?

Yep. Sure. They suck when it comes to immigrants. Much like Australia. But on the flipside - Adrian Bailey would've been executed the first time he r*ped a woman. I'd have more issues if Rupert Murdoch was being courted as our major sponsor.

Murdoch is already an indirect sponsor of all clubs given the TV rights deal.

I find some of the replies on this thread really strange... Who cares how premium a brand that sponsors us?

It's all about how much they are willing to pay for us to promote them... For brand association purposes Collingwood are trying to be the biggest and the most mass marketed not some niche premium brand ...

So I don't care if its Joe's fish shop on our jumper as long as they pay 4 million a year (which would be a monster leap on our competitors)

Remember it's them getting exposure from us -- not the other way around ... (Unless your Barcelona who don't need the money)
