Call me sceptical but what is the capacity of Skilled. I feel the wool is being pulled over our eyes, I feel like we are being spun, taken for a ride and being treated a bit like mushrooms.I listened to Bomber on radio last night go on about how 5 years ago "we had a dilapated stadium now we have a new stadium". What the... It a stand Bomber,7000 odd people sitting a great looking stand but that means 75% of the stadium is filled with people like myself, sitting in unchanged seats. What are they spinning here?
I know this sounds a little like something from X files but were we promised a ground that could fit 28,500? Was the ground full on Sunday or not?It looked pretty full, I didnt see a spot with another 4000 spots.Dont tell me after all the blurb we cant fit 25,000.
In todays Addy , Cooky is talking about the next 5 years increasing the capacity of of KP so they can chase 35,000 memebers but how much more reverbishment is required, how many new stands are required to get to 35,0000. If we are promised 28,500 and get 24,000, we will have to build a stadium of 42,000 to get a promised 35,000 and where is the money going to come from? We had to beg and scrape to the Governement and the AFL and the Council to get the cash this time?
Look Id love to roll up each week to ground that was a smaller version of the Telsta Dome right here in Geelong. The design of the Eastern Stand right around the ground would be fantastic but it just sounds a little bit to much like a dream and Geelong going into unstainable debt again would be a nightmare

Although the 'real' capacity of KP remains somewhat of a mystery, there was some kind of stuffup with the ticket scanners on Sunday.
I still fail to see where they could fit another 4,500 people.
Very strange indeed.

GEELONG says teething problems with new bar code technology contributed to a less than capacity crowd of 23,019 at Skilled Stadium on Sunday.
With 20,000 reserved seats sold and only 2000 free seats and some standing room available, it was thought the ground would have been filled to its capacity of 27,000 for the opening of the new Eastern Stand.

Chief executive Brian Cook said yesterday he believed the crowd figure on Sunday was closer to 24,000.

"We had a new digital, hands-free bar coding, the first time this technology has been used in Australia at a sporting event," Cook said.

"And we think a few might have sneaked through the system without actually registering. We've sold 20,000 seats on a seasonal basis and we know that 1500 of those didn't turn up, which is less than 10 per cent which isn't bad.

"On top of that, we think there were a few that got through the system and then there was some standing room left, as well as corporate space.

"We actually think there were 24,000 there, but we can't prove that at this stage."

Cook said fans lined up from 7am on Sunday to gain access to the 2000 free seats. But it is almost impossible to buy a seat for Geelong home games.

"The seasonal seats are gone," Cook said. "The only seats left are something like 150 scattered singles and they would range from $10 to $25.

"The worst-case scenario would be $25 for a premium seat, $17 to get in and a $5 booking fee, but I don't know if any premium seats are being sold on that basis."

The official name of the new Eastern Stand could be decided at the club's next board meeting in three weeks, Cook said.

The feeling now was that it be named after an individual rather than the Farmer-Goggin stand or the Nankervis brothers or Hocking brothers stand.

Maybe Cooky forgot that he had to count them all. Who knows.I think the number is that rubbery it could bounce. This week 23,000 when it should have been 24,000 next time it could be just as full and we will be told its 25,000 but it should have been 26,0000.How do we prove it anyway?
As I said Cooky has related the two issues of 35,000 members and capacity.I suppose hes right, they must increase the capacity and not just say they have increased it.Really increase it. Yes I know that a fair % of the membership is outside Geelong but still demand for the new stand shows people want top facilities. How will we do it, really I dont know unless we loan based on the earning power of the facities built. How long will it be before they want another stand on the Western side to match the Eastern?Logisticaly its a better side for all the big knobs and there is alot more space for a bigger building, maybe 3 tiers? Cooky says the next five years so ,it will not be long I suppose before they start putting sketchs in the Addi.

The MCG capacity has now been revised to 50,000.

It was a shock to hear the announcement of the crowd size on Sunday but hopefully what Cook has said is true and next time the numbers will be more accurate, but wouldn't it be nice to see a stand around the whole ground, the new stand looks great, but it would be great to have those gaps filled.

The game was televised live on Channel 9. I know it was a big day, but some people, especially in Melbourne, would rather watch it considering it's live. Most games attendance drop slightly when free-to-air coverage is live.

yeah, but all of the reserved seating was supposedly sold out, and a majority of the general admission. As has been said, it would have been hard to find room for an extra four or five thousand bodies.

24,100. Is this a big con? .Cook has done a great job with us but I think one of his best skills is SPIN. SPIN is the word and Cooky is the SPINDOCTOR Just when are we going to have this mystical 26500 , Doctor?
What is the number that can fit in the ground? When will the truth come out? Either they dont count everyone, for what ever reason or mis-truths have been told on capacity because I dont see room for another 4000 on top of yesterdays crowd.
The Spin contiues, Like the coachs box thing "weve fixed that no problem" yeah right, ask Laidley. The hand rail height in the new stand,"we will fix that no problem", didnt anyone check the line of sight when they were building the thing, "Upgraded stadium" , when I sit in an indiviual seat in the Hickey , maybe.
The Doctor could a job in Camberra , no problem!!

Yeah, really wondering what the deal is with our 'real world' capacity figures.
That's two games in a row that have looked full, yet supposedly had room for another 4,000 people??!?!!?!?

WTF?

There was easliy a couple of K extra spaces around the ground. There was a lot of 1 off seats and around us there were blocks of 4 and 6 seats. Ass the Standing room spots and I think you could easily get another few thousand in. That and the fact those hand held scanners are easily screwed up if you dont dock them properly or the attendan presses teh wrong button, we are talking about Geelong ground attendants afterall.

The guy who scanned my card on the weekend didn't look like he knew what he was doing.

Yeah I have noticed some of the attendants having trouble. The crowd figure is only includes the scanned barcodes. So you could expect the crowd to be 500-1000 more than what is stated. Will be more a true reflection towards the end of year when all the bugs are ironed out. Apparently the bulldogs crowd figure given was 1,000 less than the actual.

You're kidding aren't you?
There were no aisles to walk down, the place was packed, I actually left at 1/4 time, it was actually a fire hazard. I probably inhaled 5 packs of cigarettes from the clowns smoking in front of me too.
Almost got in a fight with some midget, if I'd hit him it would have knocked 300 people over we were that close together.
My mate scratched his head at one stage and couldn't get his bloody arm down afterwards!
I hate sitting at the footy but the standing room area at KP was a joke on Sunday. Bloody expensive qtr as I was over from Adelaide, caught a train to Geelong and a taxi back to Melbourne to watch the 2nd half on TV!
The only good part of it was the group of funny bastards up the back who had some great (and naughty) chants especially about Colbert, cracked me up. They obviously have it well planned, there's no way security could get up there!

Other complaint I had was about the security guard at The Cats Shop, I went in, she insisted I leave my bag with my 1 grand camera in it at the door, I told her to look after it. After I spent $200 in the shop came out and saw her looking the other way and walked off with my bag without her seeing, I should have gone back and asked her where it was. :p

The attendants at the ground are a joke. We had seats in the southern terrace and ther was a problem with some sponsors tickets around us. The attendant was saying "Oh They have sold you tickets for seat that dont exist" and kicked some people out of other seats, then later realised he kicked the wrong people out and got the first ones to sit in another group of seats (that did exist, but were the wrong ones).

Someone complained and he got more seats from the Admin office up in the new stand and then proceeded to kick people out of them as they were not in the right spot. All he had to do was ask to see the tickets of the 5 people sitting next to me to realise they were in the wrong row (which I told him about) and it would have been fixed. At the 20 minute amrk of the 3rd Qtr he came back and said to the first group that he tried to boot that he had more seats in the stand but they had restricted viewing.

And you wonder why we question the accuracy of the numbers.

Official crowd was 23,506. Listening to K-Rock after the game, a woman was complaining about the free seating area in the standing room, apparently they had 3 people across sitting in the aisles.

I think we need to be told what's going on.

I'm coming over for the Geelong/Eagles game in August and was already concerned about getting tickets and where they would be, I'm now even more concerned, any suggestions on good areas of the ground etc?

Last 3 Home games will probably be sellouts. vs Melbourne, W.C.E and Richmond. Will all be huge games in terms of shapping the eight.

I dont think our capacity is more than 25,000 though.

The King of Spin , The Cookster , stated at the start of the year that we had sold the stadium out for all 8 games bar around 3500 ( standing + free seats).
He also tod us that the capacity was 28500 or was it 26500 or is it 25,000.

Are we making money from the new stand development?
Id say 90% probablity yes ( never say 100% when the Cookster is involved), but I say without a shadow of doubt we were sold a pup on attendance numbers.
I dont think we will see 30,000 again till they rip down that Past Players/Ross Drew relics, build another stand like the The Eastern-Hickey in their place, maybe even higher one seeing how this is the ultra premium gold side( no sun)

Whether the capacity of SS is 25k, 26,500 or even 28,500, it's still too small for an AFL venue. Before there was any development on the eastern side, back when it was all standing room, the capacity of the ground was around 31,500, which I think would be much more ideal to Geelong's situation, anywhere between 31,500-35,000. What needs to happen is that a new, at least 3-tiered stand needs to be erected at the city end of the ground (where there are currently seats and some standing room), and also, the old Hickey Stand needs to be taken down and replaced with a bigger, multi-tiered stand. What do Geelong fans think of this?
