I think its related to Ross wanting players played in the positions they'd play at AFL level

But agreed, I think he can play inside at both levels

I think AFL inside mids ahead of him are: Macrae, Nas, Flanders, Garcia, Phillipou. probably also Windy and Hall. I think RTB likes him and wants to get him into the side but if he doesn't play inside then he has to play wing and we can't have a 10 possession winger with limited impact.

It looked as if he started the game on the inside and had the most clearances at quarter time so it seems like a strange instruction to move him out.

He can’t use the footy. I reckon he turns over about 50% of his pozys. That a liability playing on the wing. He needs to fix his disposal before he comes back in

We should be playing our listed players in their best position ... what they were drafted for .... not in secondary positions where they might have to play if they get called up to the seniors ... how do they develop in their primary position if they aint getting played there?

Understand its only our 1st year with a standalone VFL team but we need to identify / recruit / target a better level of top players going forward

Agree, at least have a balance where it may be 50-75% best position 25-50 development. We'll keep trying to develop thrm in different positions than they were drafted for and then delist them because we think they arent good

**** me, the AFL website "around the state league" article is so, completely useless. Just reads out the statline with 0 insight into the game (obviously asking too much of AFL journalists to actually watch the games they write articles about).

Hugh Boxshall 'impressed', James Barrat was 'in the action'. Just frustratingly poor journalism giving nothing to the people that weren't able to watch the game.

yeah which I guess is what they want him working on in the twos, and playing inside mid he can get away with just throwing it on the boot I guess.

This. Playing him as a wingman is a strange move, he’s a midfielder every day of the week. Strange what we’re doing with him.

they may as well just generate these with AI now tbh

He played a reasonablely good game today outside of the rucking duties.. If Dodson was playing we wouldnt have given up so many center bounces.

Keeler needs to be a forward with some ruck chop outs.. he just is not a main ruck.
Agree

A ruckman he is not - and we are yet to find out where his optimum position is

To me he is in the 23 because he can play anywhere - including giving a chop out in the ruck

Interesting today was that he was competitive in the ruck but consistently the opposition were at his feet and cleared

I think people can expect below average performances.

But you have to admit it doesn’t look great to be 25 points up halfway through the 3rd qtr and then lose by 34 points.

Thats a terrible capitulation. And it’s consistent with previous years with Sandy and our AFL side.
Examples?

Yeah, let's ask those players to uproot their lives in the GC to relocate down to VIC to play for a rebuilding club. SO EASY!

Someone like Mitch Podhajdski who's a gun VFL forward would straighten us up a bit.

I think a lot of the dissatisfaction with Keeler comes from the fact that he does the absolutely sublime one second… Then two or three efforts that are lazy as hell, or totally substandard…

He should be better than he is. Whether he makes the jump is up to him.

He looks like he needs to get super fit and move to a wing. He reminds me of North Melbourne Mason Wood where they wanted him to be a KPF because of his size.

Keeler's a skilful guy who looks like he starts daydreaming if he's not involved for a while. If he had less time to stand around maybe he gets more involved. He's got a bit of Nik Cox about him. He could have been a star if he wasn't so fragile.

It's not that big a deal. What matters is the development of our listed players. Some looked good, some have work to do. Most of these VFL guys are young and haven't played together before, and I actually think they're better to watch than Sandy but really melting over VFL results is a waste of time.
True, though it is much harder to develop players in a losing culture of an easy beat team, but historically we have never been good at developing young talent, and IMO I don't think Goddard has shown much as a coach.

Is there a family who is a fan of the coach after their sons delisted?
Well apparently Ollie had approached the medical team his back issues and was told not to worry about it, nothing major. Went external and got a scan and found a fracture.

Ross also apparently wanted him to cut short post season holidays to drop some weight, which he did. Lenny was happy with him but got delisted anyway.

Make of that what you will

He's just not that good a player. That's his major issue.
