44 point loss in the end with a Saints goal on the siren.

Yeah, think we have to.
Doesnt fill me which much excitement though
Doogs that is.
I have a soft spot for Doogs. And I think he's played a lot more within his limitations in recent years, which means less brain fades. He's a good tall defender. More reliable than Camma who is yet to convince me as a forward or back (like his effort, just not convinced he makes it).

Nice play by Nagel to get it to Algeri for the last goal of the game.
Didnt see much, but it seems they were competetive for the most part.
Losing Banfield-shoulder? early would of hurt.

Watched 2 and half quarters. A few nice passages but totally outplayed for the most part. Got within 18 points early in the last but ended up losing by 44. Of the listed players Howard and Fincher good, Dodson and Trav ok but nobody else really putting their hand up. Perhaps he was carrying an injury but on today’s form Said looks miles off it. Banfield injured early so gets a pass.

Keeler has sublime skills but just doesn’t have enough impact. 4th year in the system and needs to show a lot more. Should be killing it at this level. For mine Dodson has just about gone past him. A big unit who seems to love the contest.

Really worried about Travaglia. 1 handball from a dropped mark so far only, only early but would like to have seen more in this game/ overall as a player.
I like Trav, but his defensive ability in transition for nearly the first half that I saw looked fairly lackluster and relaxed. He didn’t seem to fazed taking on a player in handover or transition

We need to try Trav in specific defensive roles. His defensive stuff is immense. Either play him on a small or medium forward, or as a tagger.
Having him doing a run with role could be the best chance to play AFL footy at the moment, has the endurance and as you mentioned the defensive effort is really strong. Could even play a defensive forward role on some of the dangerous half backs, can see him matching up well on Whitfield/Clark types.

In saying this, I am glad he’s getting time as a pure mid in the VFL. He’s a work in progress, does need to work on his decision making and tidy up the disposal but I’m not putting a ceiling on him. Has Goddard vibes, in the sense that once he grows into his body he will find his feet and blossom in whatever role he ends up in.

I know others have been critical of his selection already, but I am confident we have a consistent AFL footballer at the least and can see his scope to be a high level midfielder or halfback despite being a slow burn.

Yeah, Paddy Said looks a bust at this point.
Would of expected more involvement from him in this game.

Keeler needs to start dominating at Vfl level or he's a bust too.
Looks athletic, but lacks real effort atm.

So, the captain Gilemberti had the most of the ball from half-back= 26 posessions for us.

Algeri had 23 pos. 4 clearances & 1 goal from the midfield.

Joshua Clarke- 21 pos. & 7 clearances, heard he is a dasher. One to keep an eye on?

Seems like Dodson & Howard were the best Afl listed players.
Dodson- 20 pos., only 15 hit-outs though?
Howard- 22 pos. & 7 marks.

With Fincher & Trav doing some nice things.
Fincher- 23 pos. 4 clearances & 1 goal
Travaglia- 18 pos. 3 clearances & 5 tackles

Barrat, Butler, Keeler & Said all quiet

Banfield- shoulder injury early.

Armstrong- still lost in translation.

He was likened to Jarryn Geary by Shifter Sheehan the night of the 2024 draft.
No disrespect to Geary but hope an early 1st rnd pick is better than a good back pocket

I cannot understand the use of Travaglia yet...I'm sure there is a plan however in U18s VIC team he teamed up epically in the backline with another blonde haired star....Tauru.

We currently lack a scrappy back pocket small defender. We are also playing a poor kicking back flanker in Carroll. Pair Trav up with Tauru, get the blonde haired band back together out of the backline.

Let Trav pinch hit in the midfield more and more over time. His best footy is in a position of need and for the first time in St Kilda's history, were going OK at transitioning back flankers into midfielders over time.

Play Trav back.

I’d say it should be simple
50 % on ball
50 % half back

Alternative quarters or halves. Keep consistant imo.

He can't warrant 50% on ball yet, however if he jags 80/20 this year, and increases year on year or with clear growth.

Exactly the same plan for Fincher.

Both have more trajectory than Carroll, who currently may very well be the worst "good kick" I've seen since Billings. He nearly missed his own foot last week. Give me these boys in the team any day.

It’s the saints vfl team. The team is there for development. His form last year warranted it. So he gets first shout this year.
