GOOD AFTERNOON

I have just come from a press conference this morning that included the Minister for Sport- James Merlino, our local MP- Colin Brooks, The Mayor of Banyule -Wayne Phillips, and our local councillor Peter McKenna.

It is with great pleasure I can announce that the Minister for Sport today confirmed that the following funding has been fully approved, Banyule Council $400,000, State Govt $250,000, AFL Victoria $50,000, Riverside CC $190,000 & St Marys $190,000

Consequently the million dollar redevelopment of the clubrooms can now begin. Town planning approval has already been given, however working drawings & tender documents are yet to be formalised. We will meet again with council officers early in the New Year with the aim of trying to commence construction around the middle of the year

I would like to thank the committee of Riverside CC & St Marys GJFC as well as Phil Cattenazi, Tom Chapman & Livio Basile for the countless hours they have spent over the last 4-5 years bringing this project to fruition. I would also like to thank all our generous sponsors, who over the years have helped us fund this huge project.

There is still much to do with regard to further fundraising etc, however this is a great day for the St Marys & will soon see Australia’s biggest & best junior football club in a state of the art Pavilion with 4 change rooms plus a huge new social room approx 3 times the size of what we currently occupy.

I will endeavour to keep all our members updated with any news on the project as it becomes available

Regards,
Chris Freeman
President
St Marys GJFC

St Mary's are on the move. Always have been. Will be good to see the work completed and the ground becoming a show piece.
Also good cunning work that you have one of your own, mentioned in previous post, secure a coaching role within the NFL Dev. teams. Good ploy by the club to get the contact numbers of the top NFL juniors to later try and attract them to the St Mary's club for U/19's. Also good move by the league to get some insider knowledge of just how the Yarra go about their juniors rep footy.

Mr Freeman,

Why did St Marys choose the NFL to start up a senior side? Did you look at the VAFA as they have current under 19's and under 18's starting in 2009 ?

pfffft 'looker' please start having a better 'look' at what u write. i played at st.marys 3 years ago now at the boro and look the club has never been on the move was going downhill even before i left.
Number 1: stop changing president every year. it turns the whole comittee into a complete shamble.
2: If your going to change president at least get one who wants to get funds to build some new clubrooms. honestly sunday nights there was like being stuck in a detention centre. so tight and pushy. Do something about the change rooms. extend it so it can have weights in there. I went up there this year with a neighbour on gf night its a joke nothing has changed at that place. And as for the 2 grounds Whatmough Park And Greensborough Oval. Shocking get some new turf it just turns into a complete mudheap when it rains

Good point you raise. I am a little confused as to what you disagree with that I initaially wrote. Considering you are a couple of years out of juniors, I would suggest that your knowledge on how to run a club is not as steep as an older person. However I admire your line of thinking.
Considering St Mary's, at last count, had approx 300 registered players (i'll wait to be corrected), someone is doing something right around the place.
You see from your stand point, the 'Sunday nights' that do not appeal to you, were for a junior club no doubt not as a higher priority.
I must also ask what you mean by 'the club was going downhill, even before you left'. When a club introuduces an U/19 team, I would suggest their movement direction is anywhere but 'downhill'.
Then again, looking at it from where you are standing, 'Sunday nights' at the club were boring and this would definetly indicate that club is spiralling in a downward direction...

I'll also state I have no involvement with St Mary's, however I do admire the efforts of all clubs towards creating a better club on all levels, that will allow for a better environment to provide football for those who want to play the game.

Is that U/19 team connected with the junior club unlike Your Greensboroughs,Lalors, North Hedeilberg etc. or is it just the beginning of a future senior club. If it isn't connected then this makes my point of the club going downhill. I guess we shall see who is supporting or getting behind the new team. I do know for a fact that some boys who would still be eligible to play in the Under 19 team are at West Preston

there not even going to be based in greensborough anymore.. heard they'll be training and playing at kelynack oval in mill park

What advantages would there be playing in the VAFA over the NFL?

hears some pros and cons for going to the vafa from the nfl

pro
there is alot more pride in some of the clubs because you dont get money and your playing for the jumper
con
you dont get paid
pro
its very very very rare that u will get your nose split 7 ways when your 20 met away from the ball
con
if your late on a bump and run through some one the old dvfl was a down the ground in vafa your off for the game and prob 3 - 4 weeks
pro
everyone seems to get along alot better after the game from opp sides
con
nfl is all local (almost) and you dont have to travel very far

That is purely from a players perspective, the question is why would the club choose VAFA over NFL.

Lets get the stroy right guys. St Marys Senior Footy Club (u19's for now) is a totally separate club from the St Marys juniors footy club. It has a separate committee, separate facilities and is separately funded. The only link is a representative on the junior committee for communication purposes. The senior team was formed to give the exiting colt players an avenue to keep together and move to the senior level, rather that all going separate ways. 2009 will be an interesting year for StMarys u19's but look out for the future as it will be a strong senior club in the coming seasons. Anyone interested in playing for the newby team is welcome to come along and be part of something big!!!

haha load of sh*t its only time before the junior club is drained of all its money. A senior club does cost alot of money they cant keep relying on government grants so wheres there money going to come from then? Definetly co-funded with the junior club. Cover girls right on the money there.

I believe it was Div1 side, but can't say for sure. Not only Hoppa, but a number of theboys are out of the gates and up and running early.

they are seperate legal identities which means that they are differant clubs, however i am sure that a club as well off as st marys junior football club would be happyn to chip in a few bucks here and there to help out the senior clubs venture now and in the future.

also in a seperate matter the rumour floating around is that St Marys defeated Monty last weekend. i know that practice mathes are nothing really however this should indicate that St Marys are atleast going to be competitive in division 2.

im a current player at st marys and there is nothing wrong with us despite the fact that we may have lost some good players to other clubs doesnt mean that guys from the under 15s cant impact on the scene the under 19s side is just a start bringing it in is a good idea

it'll be interesting to see how st marys go in the NFL as throughout juniors and all they often said they played in the Yarra League because they were scared of fightz in the DVFL see what happenz with them now i guess..
