The guardian who is the one uk paper I respect disagrees. To the neutral non supporter it wasn't great for the home owners. You won't see that because you support the club. This is a long standing thing not just this project. Buying houses in the 90s to future proof and leaving them empty wasn't good for the area on the short term. But was good for the club long term

As I said you can't keep everyone happy. The uncertainty of it wasn't great and did affect property values. In any case those that hung on got settlements in excess of market value.

What's absolutely not in doubt is what project anfield has done to regenerate the area. For those that stayed housing values are going up quickly. The area is better off for the regeneration.

That's actually ridiculous mate. But whatever.
How is it ridiculous?
Do you actively check up the background of all Liverpools owners or directors?
And if they were involved in something untowards would you stop your support of the club?
The majority of City fans are just happy thatthey are seeing their side do something and be successful, I'm sure most of them don't give a second thought as to where or how the Sheikh gets his money

Sounds like you wouldn't care if ISIS bought your club so long as they funded it.

It wasn't great though because they used some questionable tactics to help the club down the track. I lived with a scouse who grew up on the street I mentioned earlier. Club bought 8-10 houses for market value at the time to land bank for the future where he grew up and left them derelict. Now whether they left them that way to bring down the value of the area or not nobody knows. But when they compulsory bought 15-20 years later the area was seen as being derelict and in need of rejuvenation and the values were for less than what they bought the original 8-10.

Good business? Yes. Questionable morals? Yes

Can't really see that as an argument when those that stayed are now experiencing sustained growth in property values.

My sister in law's parents live there and reckon the area will soon boom. All off the back of what the club and the council have done.

Standard Chartered have been accused of laundering money for terrorist organisations.

Different?

Those who weren't forced to sell now are benefitting. People got compulsory bought out before the regeneration and were shafted because of LFC's prior tactics

Absolutely. They aren't providing funding for terrorist organisations. And please post these so called "claims" to check their veracity.

That's what I thought about your argument. It's like blaming gun manufacturers for shootings. Your posting standards are on a massive slide today. I know it's hot, relax and sit down.

I would love to know how WC would react if Liverpool sold Balotelli and Mignolet to China.

I would hope he'd condemn it, because based on things I've read on this board, he is not happy about all the money in China, and if his own club were to benefit from that, I'd hope he would have the same stance.

----

And it's like what athletes do in their spare time. Who cares? As long as they're not touching kids or doing sexually assaulting women, does it matter? If Sterling wants to shop from the bargain bin, who the **** cares? If Rooney smokes, what does it matter to me? If Giroud cheats on his wife, big ****ing whoop.

People want to be outraged over things and look as if they're upon a moral high horse, when in all reality, if they really wanted to make a difference, they'd get off the internet and stop arguing with strangers and go and do something that actually makes a difference in the world.

What conversation do you think we're having here mate :)

Those that had their homes acquired for the new stand had the option of being resettled in the same area. Some did, some didn't. While not perfect I think the club did a pretty good job with the council to ensure the area was regenerated after uncertainty surrounded the area for so long. I suppose it's much easier if you have a billionaire owner who's happy to pay 3 x time market value and tell residents to piss off but we didn't have that luxury unlike others.

I'm not making an argument.

And I'm fine with the weather, snide digs at me don't make your hypocrisy any more convincing.

I don't know, but your head seems to be in the sand.

Not sure why it matters so much to you where City's money comes from.

Seems to deeply affect you. Do they have one of your family members hostage?

Oh please. Turn it up.

I guess you don't have one either considering you go out to start fights online with people and you don't care about how they might feel.
Are you equating a few online spats to something like slave labour? Come on, get a grip.

I have a problem with billionaires who employ slaves for a pittance and treat them like shit while wasting money on a lavish lifestyle and hobbies like running a football club. Don't see why they can't treat their employees properly and pay them properly with all the billions they have.

Unlike some on here I see major ethical issues with it especially when they are pumping billions into a football club. I'm not going to back away from that and City fans should be putting pressure on their owner to do the right thing - stop slavery & humans rights abuses in Abu Dhabi.

I can actually see both sides to this. On one hand, I would probably be wrong to deny that seeing Spurs lift major honours would delight me, but on the other hand my conscience would not allow me to wholly justify how it was achieved. Some people are making this issue black and white, when I think you would find many people would have conflicting emotions about it.

However, those who have come out and blindly defended corruption and unethical practices should get into business themselves, you obviously have that sociopath tendency that means you don't give a shit and therefore will succeed in the business world

So I take it you boycott Nike and the millions of other products that are produced by slave labour?
Geez 3/4 of stuff that comes from China is probably produced by slaves.
Apple for instance has a shocking record yet millions of people including myself buy the new iPhone every time one is released.
