The way it read first up was that the look would be different. Sounds interesting that the gear will be tailored on an ongoing basis.

Hope they look good and cost less, and turns out to be a great move

I love this part;

Defenders, for example, can wear form-fitting jumpers with little stretch in them that gives opponents less to grab hold of. Forwards, on the other hand, will have the option of playing in a jumper with greater elasticity, that will make plain any holding by opponents.

Haha.:D

Will Swans guernsey be really wide? :p.

Thought it would've been cheap $2 material but they've really invested in a very good company that will make very good quality jumpers.

Also will be good to get a jumper cheaper.
There was no chance that we would go cheap, especially with on field wear just too important.

The different tailoring sounds interesting, looking forward to seeing the results

Correct Ed, Adidas is still our boots/runners sponsor.

This star athletic group (which hasn't actually launched yet) is just apparel both on and off field

Hopefully we see a jumper soon.

If it's all individually tailored, we technically shouldn't be seeing anything until training starts up again for next season, or even as late as the NAB Cup.

They'd have to have a base style jumper of sorts, they all have to come from the one design even if each is slightly to verybl different

How long before the AFL starts clamping down on uniform material? Won't take them long to bring innovative Collingwood down a peg or two again.

You would assume the jumpers for sale to Joe Public will be standardised sizes... be hilarious if you could get a special tailored one to hide the beer gut

The tailored fitting ones are player issues, they'll have retail jumpers.

IMHO, I do believe this is the way of the future.

The technology and logistics exist today (and has existed for quite a while) where ...

Step 1: You go online and select a style / colour / material.
Step 2: Stand in a scanning booth and get automatically "measured up".
Step 3: File gets sent to China
Step 4: Garmet gets made overnight in China
Step 5: Your bespoke garmet arrives on your doorstep 2 to 3 days later.

Adidas have had this system for years with runners, but why hasn't it happened with clothes?

I don't really know. I guess with runners people would pay a big premium for the service, but perhaps not with garmets. There would be some premium though that people would pay and would reward an innovative company who is prepared to take on the challenge.

I could imagine that the rag trade is very conservative having slowly evolved over hundreds of years, and having very well established systems and logistics.

It'd take somebody to think out of the box and create the new systems and logistics - Welcome to the market Star apparel :thumbsu:

It starts with Collingwood footballers today, but don't be surprised if this is mainstream within 5 years.

Gave too much away there. Should have kept that under their hats. Next year whenever a defender grabs the jumper and it expands like Stretch Armstrong, every commentator and Geischen will see it as something akin to a Selwood duck.

I understand why we are telling the world that we are making our own jumpers, what I don't understand is why they are telling the world that we are custom designing the jumpers to each player to give us an edge.

Couldn't the club just design them, let the players run out in them and 6 weeks into the season have the media & other clubs ask questions why you can't tackle Swan, why our forwards seem to get holding frees and our backs seem to never be jumper grabbed when running away.

That will give us the edge.

How about the forwards wearing a jumper that lights up when a player is held?

IIRC the Wallabies had custom jumpers made. They had patches of some sort gripping fabric that would hold the ball better, when tucked under the arm. I am tipping Dawes will have a similar fabric covering his entire chest, on his custom jumper. ;)
