hopefully someone here can help me

I have a toshiba a200 satelite with vista as the os. When ever i try and start it up i get to that windows load bar screen and then it will stay on that for about 5 minutes before going just blank, then after a while you can see the mouse but the background stays blank for a long time until i finally lose my patience and turn it off. I have tried system restor and all it does is go to a screen saying windows is loading files and then it just goes blank. I have tried recovery disk and pressing f12 at the start up to boot them, but again it goes windows is loading files and then goes blank.

Any solutions?

Sounds bad. Maybe the hard drive is on its way out.

Try booting Vista up in safe mode (see website for Vista specific instructions)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html

If it still doesn't boot up, take it to a techie.

If it does boot up, immediately backup your important data (photos, documents, etc) to your external hard drive (in case the hard drive is just about to die permanently)

I would then reinstall Vista completely from your Toshiba 'restore' disks (should have come with your laptop).

After a Toshiba 'restore' I would keep using it for a few days to ensure it is OK

If it started failing again, then it is probably a hardware problem. Take it to a techie.

Otherwise, if it doesn't fail in the next few days it is probably safe to put your data back on it (you should keep a backup at the same time of course :D)

Sounds a like your OS has crashed for some reason, and when your trying to reset or run the restore disc your computer is still trying to boot from the hard drive.

Worth trying this, get into your BIOS settings and locate then re-order your boot priority from HDD to CD/DVD. That should hopefully let you correctly run the factory restore CD. If it's not that, im not sure what else.

Duh to me, I didn't read properly, half asleep.

Yes, BIOS setting to make it boot from the CD instead of HDD is correct.

ok tried bootig it from safe mode and the computer just restarts

i have chnaged the boot priority from hdd to cd/dvd, the recovery disk still didn't work properly

I read somewhere that re-installing the os might work but i think my computer is just ****ed.

I've had that problem before, and it is def a HD problem. Mine had to be replaced.

How much did it set you back to get it done?

$0, my computer was still under warranty. Although, I would assume if your handy with computers, all it would cost is that of a new hard drive.

If not, take it into a repair shop and they can do it for you.
