Hit-outs a positive

Collingwood registered 41 hitouts for the match (Josh Fraser 19, Chris Bryan 16), seven more than Adelaide and third most for the round.

The Magpies tapped the ball to advantage 34.1% of the time; second best in the competition (Port Adelaide was first with 38.2%). Collingwood had first possession of the footy 45 times from a hitout to lead the league. The teams’ first use of the ball contributed to 41 clearances for the match to rank second overall in the league.

Clangers

Clanger numbers were high for most teams in the first round of the season.

Collingwood was the number one offender registering 59 clangers (Richmond also had 59 clangers).

In the fourth quarter the Magpies had 18 clangers, the most for any quarter and six more than the Crows.

Running bounces

Collingwood managed only 14 running bounces, 11th best in the competition compared to Adelaide who ranked first with 28. Melbourne (round two opponent) tallied only seven running bounces for the match to rank 15th.

Ball magnet - Scott Pendlebury

The 21-year-old collected 29 disposals on Saturday and used the ball with 90% efficiency (ninth best in the competition for a player with 20 disposals or more).

Pendlebury only played 65% of game time (80 minutes) and was rotated on eight occasions.

100% gametime

Harry O’Brien and Simon Prestigiacomo played 100% of the game. There were 14 AFL players (including O’Brien and Prestigiacomo) who played in 100% of the game.

Collingwood led the way with 108 total interchanges, 34 more than St Kilda who had the least.

God we sure make too many Clangers in most of our Games.

Surpised to see we got the 2nd most Clearnces in the Comp but I guess with Clangers made them Usless

Pendles just showing he is such a Good User of the ball and could be heading for a Massive Season this year

Story Here

Most hitouts in the game

Second most to advantage

Second most clearances

Now if only we can start the match from the first bounce we can beat anything

Hitouts and clearances are the massive positive. If we can reduce the clangers we and keep up those clearance stats, we will start to dominate. Pendlebury 29 touches with only 65% game time, that's amazing! Not to mention the 90% efficiency. The kid is a freak-show...

It's actually scarry how many touches if he can play 75%+ Game time and why did he spend wo much time on the Bench with his Influence?

This is just something I do not understand. 65% Game time. Pendles is just about our most important player. Why put him on the bench for that long? A mid should be resting up forward. He still can have his breather and he can be damaging up there. Accurate kick on goal. I noticed Carlton did it on the weekend with Judd. Insted of benching him a lot they rested him up forward and he kick 2 goals! It could also happen with swan too. He probably got the same amont of time on the field as Pendles.

Be careful, I said something similar about our unforced turnovers after we beat the Dons in the NAB game and someone who will remain anonymous (cough CD cough), ripped into me.

To have the same number of clangers as the Tigers is a testament to how bad we were on Satdee.

Pendlebury's efficiency is great. But when you only kick the ball 15 metres its hard to go wrong. Thought he was lazy in the first quarter but significantly better in the 2nd half. Also, the stat doesnt take into account the shot on goal 40 metres out directly in front which he missed in the last quarter. A chance to do something really damaging and he missed. Thanfkully he got to redeem himself from the goal-square shortly after.

We had to dominate hitouts this round. Maric and Tippett are not a good ruck combo so we should've smacked them by more out of the centre. Maric infact had more hitouts than anyone of the gruond with 21. Its more that Tippett offered very little as a backup that we got on top.

Clangers were woeful. What is worst is that we were at our worst in the last quarter when the game was on the line. All it would've taken was 1 clean passage of play but we were unable to execute. Not used to seeing a Collingwood side get nervous like that in the last quarter. Hopefully it is just because it is round 1.

Our interchange is beyond a joke. !!!!!!!

Watching the bench is like watching an Abbott and Costello routine. This following scenario happened on multiple occassions with different players.

Pendlebury runs to the bench, replaced by Swan
Thomas runs to the bench, replaced by Davis
Didak runs to the bench, no one is ready, Pendlebury forced back on.

Pendlebury was so dog tired, he walked to the forward line. Amazingly, no one manned him up. He stood there for 2 minutes and the ball came down his way. He was so dog tired he couldn't even lead. The kick instead of going to Pendlebury by himself, fell in the hands of Anthony who kicked the goal.

Pendlebury runs off replaced by Thomas who didn't even get a chance to sit down.

That makes no sense. Play the guys for 20 minutes and give them 2 solid 5 minute breaks including a rub, a drink and a cool down jog.

100+ rotations is ridiculous. Players are getting more tired with all the rotations.

Dave the rotations are player driven

When they are tired they bring themselves off, not many of our players actually get called to the bench

DaVe Pendles has said he does not like to kick long and he rather kick short and hit targets then risk kicking it long and how he put Blarring away

yer i understand that...but 108 rotations!!! As i said it is not working. Pendlebury brought himself off, but had to come back on within 10 seconds because another 2 guys came down to the bench.

This happened many times. After a passage of play, about 5 players head to the bench.

Its less then it was at times last year.

Its why any sort of injury ****s us, its still round 1 though and no matter how much work you do Round 1 always hurts bad

not bagging Pendles...but he is going to have the best efficiency rate in the AFL if he refuses to kick it long.

But I would prefer a player that gets it 20 times but does something with it than a guy who gets it 30 times but kicks it 15 metres all the time.

He has to develop into a damaging player.

mmm. that does sound a bit shambolic

Its funnier when that occurs and Obree is absolutely blasting the AFL interchange steward.

The bloke looked like he was about to cry that day, ob was laying into him hard

Dave86, i agree with you about the interchange. I saw that one with Pendles too, it was a joke, he wasn't even ready to come on.

It seemed that anyone in the bench vicinity was being called off, it's going into overkill.

it was an absolute joke. Pendlebury was so tired. He basically walked into the forward line and no crow player even bothered to stand next to him because he was basically sitting down in the forward pocket. Amazingly, the ball came down and he had a chance to kick a cheap goal...but he didnt even have the energy to muster a lead.

What was even funnier is that he came off and was replaced by the guy that he replaced to come on.

The interchange steward was so funny. It is a joke watching him hold players back. He has 2 players who don't have a clue if they are on or off, and he is holding them back by the jumpers, then he confuses himself because he is not sure which player is meant to come on for which player.
