what do you reakon the state teamds should look for this season
Victoria: Good Batter/ All Rounder
Queensland: Another All Rounder
NSW: Australia not to play as many matches
S.A: A Good Bowler
W.A: A Bowler
Tas: Maybe a Batter or another really awsome bowler

NSW - yeah not as many clashes with international fixtures.
Vic - a keeper that can bat

. no seriously, another batsman, they're very thin up top.
SA - A half decent bowler who can bat a bit. Their tail usually starts at 7-8 with keeper Manou who can't bat.
Tas - two or three bowlers above under 14s standard
WA - a decent spinner and a quality change bowler
Qld - more batting depth, esp a spare opener when Hayden is away

Batting for the Vics has been a problem. In particular in the Merc. Cup. Apart from Hodge and Elliot, we have struggled.

Definately another quick bowler for WA and a spinner as Darky mentioned. I'm hoping Williams will be back in 2001/2002 and firing for us!

so theres 4 of there top 5 batters have played for Australia
they need a allrounder. theres symonds and thats it

That's not depth. The five regulars are probably Hayden, Maher, Love, Law and Symonds, and one other batting spot taken by a fringe player (Carseldine, Hopes, Cassell, Foley, etc). None of the fringe players (except maybe Foley whose batting has been inconsistent over 10 years) have made a decent score yet. Take Hayden and Symonds out on international duty and it leaves 3 regulars and 3 fringe players who may not be up to it.
While an all-rounder WOULD be handy, I don't think Queensland would be in strife without one. Symonds, Law and Foley are regular fourth and fifth bowlers, and Maher and Hayden are also occasional options. Of the bowlers, Bichel is almost considered an all-rounder at state level (one century and an average over 20), and Kasprowicz can also bat a little. Maybe the all-rounder comes into things a bit more when the internationals are away, but since the retirement of Barsby, Healy and Border and the interstate move of Mott, the Bulls have seemed one batsman short.

SA need another batsman if anything ! They have Lehmann and Blewett who are consistent but apart from that the vaughans,johnsons etc are inconsistent ! By the way, Manou can bat, he will prove that. He is the best young keeper in the country you mark my words

I'm not knocking Manou's ability as a wicket keeper. At this stage, I don't think his batting is a strong part of his game, but Ian Healy couldn't bat either when he started, and he ended up averaging 26 for Australia (30 at first class level), and making three Test hundreds.

Spot on eastaugh, The SA lineup has produced no consistency for years. Fitzy, Deitz, Vaughan etc have promised for a long time but haven't succeeded often enough. Fitzy looked a million bucks at the start of last year as did Davies for a while but none of them go the season.

Unfortunately this is also the story for a lot of players around the country at the moment and someone has a great opportunity to put their hand up as next in line for Aussie honours.
