I watched the game as much as I could at work, just wondering how the new fella went.
I know you can't judge blokes on how they look but his physique is impressive, great build for a key position.

Bit of quite day at the office with 10 disposals and 4 marks. I was happy with his efforts today but, looking forward to seeing him cement a spot in the seniors with rivers out 4 the year.

Might develop into a better FB prospect than Warnock if you ask me.

I have no doubt he will.

Everyone talks about Warnock and how we've got a young backline. But Warnock made it to AFL footy the hard way, and is now 24 years old, the same age as Miller. I really don't see much more room for improvement with Warnock. I think he'll have a similar career to Nathan Carroll. Both off the rookie list, both will be solid defenders but never great. Will get a few years out of them before they fall by the way side.

On the other hand, Stef is only 21, and this is only his 2nd full season of aussie rules football ever! He played half a season in U19 ammos, plus last year at Sandy before getting drafted in the Pre-Season draft!

He has tremendous upside. He's bigger than any of our other key backs, and he's quick. Skills looked solid today, and he's still learning the game.

Totally agree, Warnock is clearly undersized for what we need him to be, whereas Martin already has the body, just needs to play and learn the game a bit more. Warnock would fit nicely as the third tall.

Did some OK things, but found himself in no mans land (half a kick away from a contest) a few times so the ball would sail over his head..

But has a lot of potential..good size

Warnock and Garland have been great for us over the 8 weeks, but i do also agree we need a big sizeable full back. Martin long term could be the answer to this. He looked good yesterday in the first quarter and a bit, but i didn't notice him much after that.

Garland did a great job on Bradshaw kicked two in the last quarter and same with Warnock held brown well for most of the day and kicked 3 in the last. Also a couple of questionable free kicks given to the brisabne pair.

Do you think he will keep his spot for the next game? Could he be competing with Frawley for a spot?

I really don't know, he was was caught in no mans land as he was ball watching, a few times in the 4th qtr he didn't know where to go when the ball was just outside our defensive 50, was standing by himself..

I'd probably say, due to the matchups we can expect against the doggies small forward line he might go

Maybe lose his spot against the Dogs due to structural reasons. He's a beanpole and they've got a midget forward line. I would have thought going into the game with Warnock, Garland and Martin all in the same backline against them would be too top heavy IMO. But I'd love for him to stay in the team, possibly rucking with Johnson moving down forward with Sylvia, Bate and Miller

He is competing with Frawley for a spot, but as you've said WB have a smaller forward line so we might not play either. Frawley was named in the best so he's pushing for a recall, but Martin didn't do a lot wrong.

I could see Bell getting a game ahead of both or maybe Frawley playing because he's smaller and a little more versatile.

Or maybe we'll play stef to take big will when he goes forward

is there any chance he could be swung up forward for a few weeks?

there seems to be an abundance of riches (getting a little carried away) down back and no talls on the full forward line.

We dont need talls, our setup isnt built around hitting a tall forward.

Bate is 192 odd cm, and Miller has a decent size about him. And I think that just about does us. Keep Stef down back, where his comfortable.

maybe i'm a little old school in my view, but i think a power full foward is essential.

i like the role bate and miller play at half-forward, but other than the elusive 'juice', we've got no one coming through as a potential full-forward... and we don't even seem to be experimenting.

we've kicked the second lowest points in the comp and have only broken the 100 points barrier once this year.

we already have rivers, garland, warnock and frawley, i say chuck him up forward for a bit while he's learning the game.

He is 198cm and 97kg thats a very large beanpole!!!

I agree with you mate so far as you have summed up our current situation. The only thing is whether being a new player and all with limited experience in defence whether he is comfortable with that role. Another posted stated that they didn't think so. Having said that, as he is reletively new maybe this is the time to make the switch. Either way he has obvious potential both up forward and down back - a very rare but satisfying dilemma we are faced with.
